PINE BLUFF, Ark.- Golden Lions Head Baseball Coach Carlos James announced Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s schedule for the 2011 season today. On the schedule are 24 games that will be played at both the new Torii Hunter Baseball & Softball Complex and Taylor Memorial Field along with 27 road matchups. This year’s schedule includes three teams (Grambling, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss) that qualified for the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
UAPB will spend the first week-and-a-half of the season on the road, starting with the Jackson State Tournament followed by a mid-week trip at Oklahoma (Feb. 22-23).
The home schedule kicks off on February 26 with the Golden Lions hosting a three-game set against Chicago State. UAPB will then hit the road on March 3 to face Stephen F. Austin then return home to play LeMoyne and Owen (March 5-6) followed by Henderson State on March 9.
SWAC conference play begins the weekend of March 12 at Texas Southern followed by a home-and-home series with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (March 15-16). The Golden Lions will host Prairie View A&M (March 19-20) before playing its next six games on the road.
After visiting Stillwater, OK to play Washington and Oklahoma State in a double-header on March 22, UAPB will travel to Southern University (March 26-27) and Henderson State (March 30), returning home against Grambling on April 2-3.
Following visits to Central Arkansas (April 5) and Dallas Baptist (April 7-9), the Golden Lions will host their next six games against Stephen F. Austin (April 12), Texas Southern (April 16-17), Jackson State (April 19), and Central Arkansas (April 20).
As April comes to a close, UAPB will travel to Prairie View A&M (April 23-24) and Ole Miss (April 27) then return to the Torii Hunter Baseball and Softball Complex to face Southern (April 30-May 1). The Golden Lions final conference series will be on the road at Grambling May 7-8.
The SWAC Tournament will get underway on May 17 in Jackson, Miss. with the NCAA Tournament beginning on June 4.
