Arizona State to Appeal Postseason Ban

Arizona State University will appeal the postseason ban which was levied against them this past week for NCAA violations under former head coach Pat Murphy according to the Arizona Republic. ASU president Michael Crow confirmed the appeal but Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love and baseball coach Tim Esmay have not spoken about the situation.

Interesting enough in the article is the amount of money that Arizona State has spent on the defense of the case.

The cost of investigating and defending the baseball case for almost three years is more than $787,000 to date, ASU officials said. That rises to more than $1 million including money owed to former coach Pat Murphy, whose contract through June 30, 2011 was terminated without cause in November 2009. Murphy was making $300,000 in guaranteed salary.
