EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern head baseball coach Paul Stevens has announced the team’s 2011 schedule released today (Dec. 17). The Wildcats open their slate Feb. 18 at the Red Raider Classic in Lubbock, Texas.
NU ventures to Winston-Salem, N.C., the following weekend to participate in a tournament hosted by Wake Forest before traveling to Evansville, Ind., March 4-6.
The Wildcats play a three-game series at Saint Louis March 10-12 prior to embarking on their spring break trip to Winter Haven, Fla. After playing four games in Winter Haven, Northwestern plays two games at 2010 NCAA Tournament participant North Carolina State, the alma mater of assistant coach Tim Stoddard, March 22-23.
The ensuing three days see the ‘Cats making the trek to Buies Creek, N.C., where it faces Campbell in a three-game series to wrap up the road preconference portion of its season.
The Wildcats’ home opener at Rocky Miller Park is set for March 30 when they play host to Valparaiso. Big Ten play gets underway two days later as Northwestern makes the trek to Ohio State.
Following a mid-week contest against Milwaukee, NU plays its first home conference series April 8-10 as it welcomes Penn State.
On the heels of a contest at UIC and a series at reigning Big Ten champion Minnesota, Northwestern opens a season-long 11-game homestand April 19 against Northern Illinois. The extended stay in Evanston includes weekend sets against Big Ten foes Purdue (April 22-24) and in-state rival Illinois (April 29-May 1).
The ‘Cats return to the road May 6-8 as they travel to Bloomington, Ind., to take on Indiana. NU closes out the home portion of its season with a stretch of five games in six days, facing UIC (May 10) and Chicago (May 11) before finishing up with Michigan May 13-15.
The regular season draws to a close May 19-21 when Northwestern heads to Michigan State.
The 2011 Big Ten Baseball Tournament is slated for May 25-28 at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio.
