CraigMooreCreighton OMAHA, Neb. – Head Creighton baseball coach Ed Servais announced today the official hiring of Craig Moore as the newest Bluejay baseball assistant coach, taking over for Brent Alwine, who accepted a similar position at Western Michigan. A native of Fremont, Neb., Moore comes to Creighton following a four-year stint as head coach at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. Moore will work primarily with the outfielders and hitters.

“We are all very excited to have Craig join our staff,” said Bluejay head coach Ed Servais. “I have enjoyed getting to know him during the hiring process. Craig brings Division I playing and coaching experience to our program as well as head coaching experience at the junior college level. He will be a good addition to our Creighton family.”

After improving in wins each season at Western Texas College, Moore set a school record in victories last year with 21. He coached two players selected in the 2008 MLB draft (Mitch Delaney with the New York Yankees and George Agyapong-Mensah by the Toronto Blue-Jays) as well as moving many kids to D-I and D-II schools out of the junior college.

Prior to the job at WTC, Moore was the recruiting coordinator and top assistant at Tennessee Tech University for three years. He focused on outfielders, infielders, and hitters and oversaw administrative duties. His defensive units never had below a .955 fielding percentage, and he also coached two players into the MLB in his three seasons as a Golden Eagle.

Moore was drafted in the 1996 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals following his high school career at Archbishop Bergan High School. Foregoing that opportunity, Moore chose to play college baseball at Creighton’s I-80, in-state rival, Nebraska. Moore was a four-year starter and letter winner. He was part of the 1999 Big 12 Championship team as well as an academic all-conference pick in his four seasons as a Husker. In his senior season, Moore played in 19 games and hit .346.

The Fremont, Neb., native holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a master’s degree from Lake Erie College in business administration. Moore and his wife, Alison, have one  son, Jaxon.
