Taipei, Taiwan – Jackie Bradley, Jr. (South Carolina), Brad Miller (Clemson) and Ryan Wright (Louisville) each collected three hits and helped Team USA to a 9-1 win and a split of the four-game series with Chinese-Taipei Wednesday at Hsinchuang Field.

Bradley, Jr. and Wright joined Alex Dickerson with a team-best two RBI, while Wright smacked his first home run of the summer on a solo shot down the left field line in the third inning.

The Collegiate National Team (CNT) wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as they pushed across three runs in the top of the first for an early 3-0 lead. Miller doubled with one out then came home on Bradley, Jr.’s single to left center. Wright got in on the hit parade with a single through the left side and George Springer (Connecticut) reached on an error to load the bases. Bradley, Jr. scored on a fielder’s choice RBI by Dickerson and Wright touched home on the second error of the inning by Chinese-Taipei.

Mikie Mahtook (LSU) scored on a wild pitch and Bradley, Jr. plated Steve Rodriguez (UCLA) with a single to right center to extended Team USA’s lead to 5-0 in the second inning.

Chinese-Taipei put their lone run on the board in the third when Chi Cheng singled home Yan Shen closing the gap at four, 5-1. Shen walked to start the frame then moved to second on Wei Lin’s walk and took third on wild pitch.

After Wright’s solo blast made it 6-1 in the bottom half of the third, CNT scored three runs in the fifth to take a 9-1 lead. Three consecutive singles by Miller, Bradley, Jr. and Wright produced the first run of the stanza shortly before back-to-back sac flies by Springer and Dickerson plated the final two runs.

Brett Mooneyham (Stanford) improved to 2-0 after working three innings where he allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Scott McGough (Oregon) gave up one hit over two innings, while Brian Johnson (Florida) tossed two perfect innings and Kyle Winkler (Texas Christian) added another. Cal State Fullerton’s Nick Ramirez finished off the three-hitter working a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.

Dam Guan suffered the loss after being touched for five runs (two earned) on five hits in two innings. Chie Pan gave up a run on two hits and Pei Wu allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits without recording an out.

Team USA will close its summer season at the FISU World University Championships in Tokyo, Japan, runs from July 30-Aug. 7. The U.S., who opens with Sri Lanka on Friday, July 30 at 1 a.m. has won the last three FISU Worlds (2004, ’06, ’08), while host nation Japan will be looking for its first title.
