Austin Regional Recap for Day 3

Rice 9 Louisiana-Lafayette 1

Mike Ojala threw a five-hitter for his first career complete game and Rice eliminated Louisiana from the NCAA Austin Regional on Sunday with a 9-1 victory. Ojala (6-2), who retired 12 straight batters at one point, struck out nine and gave up only one walk.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (38-22) had only three runners reach second base in the game, with Chad Keefer scoring their only run.

Texas 4 Rice 1

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 3 Texas Longhorns captured their 32nd NCAA Regional title with a 4-1 win over the Rice Owls at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday evening.

Taylor Jungmann and Chance Ruffin combined to hold Rice’s potent offense to just three hits on the evening.  Jungmann (7-3) scattered two hits and two walks and allowed one run while striking out seven over 7.2 innings to earn the win. Ruffin closed out the game, fanning one and yielding one hit in 1.1 innings.
