Nix Sets UC Riverside Single-Game Hits Record
Hitting .654 and registering 15 RBI over six games gave UC Riverside junior Tony Nix (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) the honor of Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week.

Nix had 17 hits in 26 at-bats to raise his batting average from .266 to .341 on the season. He also scored 11 times and produced nine extra base hits, including five doubles, a triple and three home runs.

He posted multiple hits in all six games, including a 6-for-6 performance in the Highlanders’ 16-6 win over Loyola Marymount on Wednesday. The six hits broke UC Riverside’s Division I-era record and tied the overall school mark. Those six knocks were part of nine consecutive hits he had during the week.

Nix opened up UCR’s Big West series sweep of Cal State Northridge with a mammoth performance on Friday, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a homer and a career-high tying five RBI in a 13-5 victory. He also slugged another home run in a 9-3 win on Sunday.

Cal State Fullerton’s Renken Tosses Shutout, UC Irvine’s Brock Collects Win And Save
Solid mound performances from both Cal State Fullerton junior Daniel Renken (Cypress, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS) and UC Irvine freshman Evan Brock (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala HS) earned the duo Big West Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week honors.

Renken threw his second career complete game shutout on Saturday against Long Beach State, winning his seventh straight start. He won his ninth game after allowing eight hits and striking out six in a 102-pitch performance. He did not walk a batter. Renken lowered his ERA from 4.49 to 3.96 with the effort.

Brock picked up a save and a win in his two appearances on the week for UC Irvine. He tossed the final three innings in a 2-1 win over No. 11 UCLA. Brock retired nine straight and fanned the final four batters to earn his first collegiate save. He then returned for his first weekend start in a Big West series Saturday, allowing just two hits and one run (none earned) in six innings of an 8-1 win. The right-hander nursed a no-hitter through five innings.
