Former Arizona State head coach Pat Murphy and former Arizona assistant coach Scott Pickler were hired on Tuesday by the San Diego Padres. Murphy comes over to the Padres after being the head coach of the Sun Devils since 1995. He was fired in the fall by athletic director Lisa Love. He will serve as a special assistant to baseball operations. Pickler served last season as an assistant coach with the Arizona Wildcats and will be a scout for the Padres during the 2010 season.
