QUEENS, N.Y. – To cap its fall season, the St. John’s baseball team will hold its Red-Gray Intrasquad World Series at Kaiser Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 19. The three-game set continues with games at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 and 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 21. Batting practice will be held at 12:30 p.m. prior to each contest. The games are open to the public and admission is free.
"The Intrasquad World Series is the culmination of our fall season and is a very competitive event," said head coach Ed Blankmeyer. "The players look forward to it each year and it should be an exciting three days."
The Red squad will be managed by assistant coach Mike Hampton, while the Gray team will be managed by assistant coach Jeff Quiros.
The starting rotations for the series have been set. The Red team will throw senior righty Nick Cenatiempo (5-3, 5.17 in 2009), freshman lefty Sean Hagan and sophomore righty Eddie Medina (5-3, 3.81). The Gray squad will counter with senior righty Bruce Kern (5-4, 6.09), sophomore lefty Kevin Kilpatrick (3-2, 7.42) and senior rightyMiguel Valcarcel (1-1, 4.88).
Offensively, the Red team is led by senior Jimmy Parque (.360, 17 2B, 61 RBI), a third team All-BIG EAST selection in 2008, junior Greg Hopkins (.349, 7 HR, 45 RBI) and senior Joe Witkowksi (.357, .600 slugging percentage).
