Gibbs was LSU’s leading hitter in its series victory over No. 1 Georgia in Athens, batting .444 (4-for-9) with two homers, four RBI and four runs scored … for the entire week, Gibbs hit .385 (5-for-13) with two homers, four RBI and four runs.
He also walked three times and was hit by a pitch, posting a .500 on-base percentage … Gibbs also threw out a Georgia base runner attempting a steal during the weekend series. PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Scott Bittle • Ole Miss
Senior • RHP • Texarkana, Texas
Bittle picked up his second win of the season and first SEC win with a complete-game shutout of Kentucky on Sunday … It was the second start of the season for Bittle … The senior struck out a career-high 13 batters and held the Wildcats to three hits as he tossed his first complete-game of his career and a career-long 9.0 innings.
The win clinched a series sweep for the Rebels, the first in conference play this season for Ole Miss and snapped a streak of three straight series losses to the Wildcats … Bittle did not walk a single batter in the outing.FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Sonny Gray • Vanderbilt
RHP • Smyrna, Tenn.
Gray played the key role on the mound in the Commodores first SEC series win of the year against No. 19 Florida. He picked up the save, his fourth of the year, with an inning of scoreless relief in Saturday’s 4-3 win over the Gators.
He then came on in the eighth in Sunday’s 9-9 tie game and held Florida in check, limiting them to just one hit in two innings with three strikeouts. He went 1-0 with a save in two appearances on the week with four strikeouts and one walk in three innings of work. He was the lone Commodore pitcher to not allow a run against the Gators.
