Senior Lex Wolfe (Lakewood, N.J.) was named as the first American Southwest Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week of the 2009 season by the conference office on Monday.

Wolfe went seven innings in Saturday’s 10-3 win over Trinity, allowing no runs, just four hits and striking out nine batters in the process.

The right-hander walked just two batters on the week and held opponents’ to a batting average of .167.

The Patriots went 2-1 last week as they opened the season by hosting the 2009 Easton Classic presented by Clements Fluids.

UT Tyler will return to action on Sunday when they meet Castleton St. in doubleheader action at Irwin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Ryan Yezak, 3B, So., East Texas Baptist
East Texas Baptist sophomore third baseman Ryan Yezak (Bryan, TX / Brazos
Christian Academy) went 5-for-11 with two home runs, one double and 10 RBIs in a
series sweep of Jarvis Christian. Yezak, who had a seven-RBI game, also walked twice
and scored five times.
PITCHER
Lex Wolfe, RHP, Sr., Texas-Tyler
Texas-Tyler senior right-hander Lex Wolfe (Lakewood, NJ / LHS) tossed seven shutout
innings with nine strikeouts to earn a win over Trinity. Wolfe scattered four hits and
walked just two batters.
WEST
HITTER
Tom Williams, OF, Sr., Concordia Texas
Concordia Texas senior outfielder Tom Williams (Austin, TX / AHS) went 5-for-11 with
one home run, one triple and one double to pace a 2-1 week that included a 5-3 road win
over nationally-ranked Texas-Tyler. Williams drove in three runs and struck out just
once. He scored four times.
PITCHER
Travis Staggs, RHP, Jr., Texas Lutheran
Texas Lutheran junior right-hander Travis Staggs (Elmedorf, TX / Southside HS) tossed
six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and one walk to beat Austin College. Staggs
struck out four batters.
