HOUSTON, Texas – Head baseball coach Jared Moon has announced the HBU Huskies baseball schedule for the upcoming 2009 season.
The schedule will see the Huskies spending most of their time on the road, with 12 home games on the schedule. HBU will play a total of 12 games against five NCAA Tournament teams from 2008.
The Huskies open the season with a three-game set at Southland Conference member McNeese State before heading to Waco for a mid-week game against Big 12 power, Baylor. After four more road games against Southland teams, the Huskies will play their first home series as they take on Lubbock Christian in three games on March 6-7.
HBU will then head to Norman, Okla. for a pair of games against the Oklahoma Sooners, a team that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2008, on March 10-11. The Huskies then return to Houston for a game at cross-town rival Texas Southern before welcoming the Tigers to Husky Field the next day for a double-header. Stephen F. Austin State will then come to town on March 17 with HBU returning the trip to Nacogdoches the next day. That trip kicks off an 11-game road swing.
The Huskies will play weekend series at Louisiana Tech and Northern Colorado during that period with midweek games at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Sam Houston State and SFA. Following a single home game against SFA on April 1, HBU will travel to Dallas to face 2008 NCAA Tournament qualifier Dallas Baptist in a three-game set. DBU was the first independent team to reach the tournament since 1992 last year.
On April 9, HBU will welcome Northern Colorado for a four-game set over three days at Husky Field sandwiched between a pair of games in San Marcos at Texas State. That second game against the Bobcats kicks off a 12-game road stretch that includes a four-game series at Arkansas-Little Rock and a four-game set at New Mexico State. Also during that period is a mid-week game at NCAA qualifier TCU on April 29 in Fort Worth. The Huskies then close out the season with a single home game against Prairie View A&M on May 13 and then a pair of games at Louisiana-Monroe.
