Emmitsburg, Md. (December 16, 2008)–Mount St. Mary’s baseball coach Scott Thomson has announced five recruits for the 2009-10 school year. Vincent Molesky (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), Patrick Moriarty (Dumfries, Va./Potomac), Sam Nott (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), Karl Lamont (Williamsburg, Iowa/Williamsburg) and Mark Quaranta (/Loyola Blakefield) will attend the Mount in the fall of 2009.

“With the addition of these five young men, we will look to challenge for the Northeast Conference Championship for years to come,” said Thomson. “All five of these players will add tremendous depth on the mound and in the field. We are looking forward to showcasing these new additions to our team in the fall of 2009.”

Molesky, a 6-4 right handed pitcher, compiled a 16-5 record with a 1.75 ERA over the past two years at Montoursville High School. He struck out 159 batters in 116.2 innings of work. He was named All-Susquehanna Valley League in each of the past two years in both baseball and basketball.

“Vince is a 6’4” lanky right hander with a very explosive arm. Vince comes from the same high school as Mike Mussina. Vince has command of all three pitches that he can throw for strikes at any time,” said Thomson.

Moriarty, a 6-0 right-handed pitcher, was named Second Team All-District as a junior last year at Potomac high School. He posted a 6-2 record as a starting pitcher last year and has belted 25 home runs so far in his high school career.

“ Ryan is a big strong right-handed pitcher with a live fastball that reaches upper 88-91mph. We look for Ryan to step right in and challenge for a spot in our rotation. He also brings a powerful bat from the right side for power and average,” said Thomson.

Nott, a 6-0 outfielder, hit .417 with four home runs, 28 RBI and 13 extra base hits last season at Central Dauphin. He earned Mid-Penn All-Star team honors, was named Third Team Big-11 All State and was a Keystone State team silver medalist.

“Sam is a complete player. He has plus arm from the outfield and gets tremendous jumps on the ball. Offensively, Sam can handle the bat and hits to all fields. We look for Sam to challenge for one of the three outfield spots,” said Thomson.

Quaranta, a 6-2 catcher, hit .383 with eight doubles and a .561 on-base percentage last year at Loyola Blakefield. A strong defensive player, he threw out 28 of 34 baserunners

“ Mark is a big strong very athletic player. With his big frame he will be a great target for the pitchers to throw to. Mark has a very live arm behind the plate throwing 1.95-2.02 to second base. Mark will bring a powerful bat from the left side of the plate. He will hit for power and average,” said Thomson.

Lamont earned First team All-Conference, First Team All-District and First Team All-State honors as a junior last year at Williamsburg High School. A player on the varsity since eighth grade, he has a career .452 average with 44 runs scored, 15 doubles, four triples, three home runs and 46 RBI. On the mound, he posted a 6-2 record with a 2.03 ERA and two saves with 69 strikeouts and 55.1 innings of work. He threw a 16-strikeout no-hitter in the district semifinals in 2007.

“Karl will bring a much needed arm from the left side of the mound. Not only will Karl get innings on the mound but, also we look for him to challenge for a spot in the outfield. On the mound he brings one of the best change ups I’ve seen with a mix of other pitches,” said Thomson.
