TOLEDO, OH – The University of Toledo baseball program has signed four recruits for the 2009-10 season, head coach Cory Mee announced today.

Joining the Rockets in the fall of 2009 will be Michael Hamann (Port Clinton, OH – Danbury), Chris Hundley (Cincinnati, OH – Colerain), Jared Locke (Dundee, MI – Ida) and Andy Mix (Baltimore, OH – Liberty Union).

“We identified a couple areas of need for this recruiting class last summer and felt like we really needed to add some power arms to our pitching staff and also some offensive power to our lineup,” Mee said. “I felt like we really addressed these areas with this recruiting class and these four players that we signed. A lot of the credit has to go to (Pitching Coach) Josh Bradford and (Assistant Coach) Oliver Wolcott for putting this class together. As a whole, I think we added a very athletic group of outstanding young men that I’m excited to work with them.”

“We could not be more excited about our 2009 early signees,” added Bradford. “Each of these guys possess the ability to come in and not only contribute, but have the ability to be impact guys in their first year. Not only can these guys play, but they are all great kids. It has been a joy for me to go through the recruiting process with them and their families.”

Mee on Hamann: “I think Michael is going to have an opportunity to come in and really contribute to our team right away. He is a well-polished pitcher. He has outstanding command of four different pitches that he can throw for strikes. One of the things I really like about Michael is that he’s a real student of the game and has a great feel for pitching. You can see his competitiveness come out when he pitches, as well. I think those are the reasons he’s going to have a great opportunity to contribute to our staff right away.”

Chris Hundley
* Three-year letterwinner in baseball at Colerain High School

Mee on Hundley: “Chris is another player that really fills our need on the mound. Again, he is a very polished thrower with a great feel for pitching. He has a real knack for setting hitters up and using his strengths to his advantage. He throws three pitches for strikes and has an outstanding change up. I think Chris has a real bright future on the mound and I can’t wait to see him in a Toledo uniform.”

Jared Locke
* Three-sport letterwinner in baseball, football and basketball at Ida High School
* Tallied a 5-2 mark on the mound with 59 strikeouts and 19 walks in 41.1 innings and a 2.71 ERA (2008)

Mee on Locke: “Jared is another outstanding athlete. He is a three-sport athlete in high school, and I think when he comes to college he will be putting all his efforts into one sport. I think we’re going to see a tremendous improvement in him, from a baseball perspective. He’s a straight power pitcher. He’s very aggressive on the mound, and really attacks the hitters with his best stuff. I think as Jared continues to develop, the best is yet to come from him and I’m excited he’s going to be doing that for the Rockets.”

Mee on Mix: “Andy really adds variety to our team and will be outstanding offensive player. He has tremendous power potential. He’s also a versatile player, as he can play third base or the outfield. He can also pitch and that’s something we are going to look into as well. The thing that really impressed me about Andy was the enthusiasm and the passion that he played the game with when I went to see him. He’s a hard worker, and I think Andy is going to be able to make an impact for us offensively during his career.”
