The Ole Miss Rebels will again play a rigorous schedule that features 11 teams who advanced to the 2008 NCAA Tournament, head coach Mike Bianco announced on Friday.

The 2009 schedule features 33 home dates, including a non-conference series against TCU as well as conference weekends with Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and the home finale against in-state rival Mississippi State.

In all, 31 of the Rebels 56 games on the schedule this year are against teams who advanced to last year’s NCAA Tournament which should make for schedule that excites baseball fans while preparing the team for a run at the College World Series.

“We have again put together a schedule that should be on that is both exciting and challenging,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “It should be an exciting schedule for our fans with so many teams coming to Oxford how advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago. It’s also a challenging schedule for that same reason and is one that will prepare us for the SEC and NCAA Tournament as we continue to work toward the College World Series.”

The Rebels open the season on February 20 at South Alabama where Ole Miss will face Liberty, Mercer and South Alabama in the Coca-Cola Classic. The Rebels will then return to Oxford where they will play 10 of their next 11 games in the friendly confines of newly renovated Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

The stretch of home games will include weekend series against TCU and Vermont as well as mid-week tilts with Central Arkansas and Austin Peay. Ole Miss will play one road trip in that time with a single game at Arkansas State.

The Rebels then open SEC play on the road at Vanderbilt to break into the conference slate. Ole Miss will travel to play conference series at Vanderbilt, LSU, Florida, Auburn and Arkansas in the 2009 season.

In addition to the Southeastern Conference matchups, the Rebels will also travel to play Southern Miss and Mississippi State at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss., during the month of April.

Ole Miss closes out the regular season on the road at Arkansas May 14-16.
