Team Canada wins first exhibition game Canadian entry in the World University Games Baseball Championship defeated the Okotoks Dawgs of the Western Major Baseball League 6-5 before a crowd of 1,505 in Okotoks, Alberta.

Team Canada’s offense was led by  C Jeff Vickers (Lamar), who hit a two-run home run in the third inning. The winning run came in the fifth, on an RBI single by DH Ryan Pilgrim (British Columbia). Pilgrim was 2-4 for the game. RF Jon Syrnyk (British Columbia) was also 2-4.

Team Canada used five pitchers. Thain Simon (Santa Clara) started, pitched two hitless innings, and got the win.  Sheldon McDonald (Northeastern) allowed a run and a hit in two innings, struck out four.

Tanner Lorenz took the loss for the Dawgs. Garrett Regan (Oklahoma City) hit two doubles for them.

Box score and play-by-play

Team Canada plays the Lethbridge Bulls of the WMBL on Wednesday. They will travel to the Vancouver area to play the Burnaby Bulldogs of the Pacific International League on Friday, and the independent Burnaby Collegiate Bulldogs on Saturday.
