CBB Regional Preview: Cary (NC)

The Cary Regional is highlighted by the host North Carolina Tar Heels as they will be joined by UNC-Wilmington, Elon, and Mount St. Mary’s.

The Tar Heels enter the Regional with a 46-12 record while going 22-7 in the ACC. They are led by the sophomore trio of Dustin Ackley (.399 BA), Tim Fedroff (.383 BA), and Kyle Seager (.365 BA). The top pitcher for the Tar Heels has been Alex White all season.

UNC-Wilmington enter the weekend with a 42-15-1 overall record with a conference record of 25-4-1 in the CAA. They are led in hitting by Jason Appel (.405 BA) and Mark Carver (.353 BA). The Wilmington pitching staff is solid with Bradley Holt leading the team in pitching with a 10-1 record and an ERA of 3.30.

The Elon Phoenix enter with a 43-16 record while being 19-8 in the Southern Conference. The top hitter for the Phoenix is Cory Harrilchak who leads the team in hitting with a .428 average and second on the team with 11 homers. The top starting pitcher is Steven Hensley who is 10-1 with a 3.34 ERA.

Mount St. Mary’s enters this weekend after winning the NEC Tournament last weekend. They have a 21-32 overall record while being 13-11 in the conference. The top hitter on the team is Josh Vittek who is batting .366 on the year while Max Brittenham leads them on the mound with a 4-5 record and a 4.32 ERA.
