FROM PRESS RELEASE

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as senior outfielder Kevin Crabtree and UTSA right hander Bradley Chovanec each claimed their first weekly honors of the season. UTSA moves into a tie with Southeastern Louisiana for most team awards on the season with three.

HITTER

Kevin Crabtree, SFA, Sr., LF, Sugar Land, Texas

arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;”>Crabtree provided plenty of power for the ‘Jacks this week, using six extra-base hits to notch 20 total bases in five games. He had two extra-base hits against naitonally-ranked Texas A&M on Tuesday and added his second triple of the week on Friday against Central Arkansas. Then came the weekend, where he would score a pair of runs and drive in another on Saturday in a win over the Bears that snapped SFA’s five-game losing skid. He followed that up with a two-home run, four-RBI performance that included a mammoth home run in the fourth inning off of Bears starter Reece Cross. Crabtree finished with a 1.000 slugging percentage for the week and was even a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.

Honorable Mention: Brock Wilson, UTA; Corey Arceneaux, NICH; Paul Goldschmidt, TXST; David Moore, LU; Mike Jaworski, NWLA.

PITCHER

Bradley Chovanec, UTSA, Sr., RHP, Burton, Texas

Chovanec was outstanding on Saturday at Southeastern Louisiana, as he tossed his second consecutive complete game (third of year) and second shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory. The Burton native allowed just four hits, all singles, walked one and struck out two in the 101-pitch masterpiece. He retired 10 in a row from the fourth through seventh innings and 16 of the final 18 of the game (including the final six). Chovanec, who has allowed just one earned run over his last 18 innings of work, now has an SLC-best six wins this year to go with a 3.30 ERA. He also leads the league with 57.1 innings, three complete games and a pair of shutouts. The 6-foot-4 right-hander owns a 38-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio this year in nine appearances (eight starts).

Honorable Mention: Tyler Davis, MCN; Brian Sisk, LU; Clayton Cooper, NWLA; Jeremy Cloud, UCA.
