Arizona State wins battle of Number 1 vs Number 2

Arizona State picked up a tough 6-5 win over Arizona on Tuesday night between two of the top teams in the country. The Sun Devils jumped all over the Wildcats in the first inning picking up three runs off of Wildcat starter Mike Colla. He only lasted 3.2 innings while letting up six runs (four earned) while allowing five hits and four walks. ASU starter Josh Satow did not fare much better as he only lasted four innings while letting up five runs (four earned) on six hits. Both teams bullpens were strong throughout the game with Arizona being led by Ryan Perry and Daniel Schlereth. Perry only gave up a walk in his 2.1 innings of hitless relief and Schlereth pitched two innings while only allowing one hit and striking out four Sun Devils batters. Reyes Dorado of ASU looked fantastic in his two innings of relief holding onto a 6-5 lead by only no hits and striking out five out of the six batters. Ike Davis pitched the ninth inning where he was able to pick up the save even though he gave up a leadoff single to Bryce Oretega.

ASU’s offensive standout Brett Wallace continues to be a force at the plate as he went 2-2 with two RBI with a run scored while walking twice. Ike Davis hit a two run single in the first inning to get the Sun Devils off to the good start. The Wildcats were led by Brad Glenn who went 2-4 with 2 runs scored while the only other Wildcat hitter with more then one hit was Mike Weldon who went 2-4 with 2 RBI.
