Maybe one of the best left-handed relievers in the country entering the 2019 season is Arkansas closer Matt Cronin.
His freshman season with the Razorbacks he posted a 2.00 ERA in 18 innings pitched with 31 strikeouts. Then he had a 1.96 ERA in the Coastal Plain League with 32 strikeouts in 18.2 innings pitched.
As a sophomore, he broke out as Arkansas’ closer as they made a run to the College World Series finals. The 6-foot-2, 190 pitcher had a 3.54 ERA in 48 innings pitched with 59 strikeouts.
He certainly has the stuff to be a solid closer at the major league level right now. We’ll see how Arkansas decides to choose him in 2019, but if winds up back in the closer role he should be one of the best in the nation.
