Florida State wins rivalry series vs Miami

The eleventh ranked Seminoles entered this weekend’s series against the Hurricanes as slight underdogs but quickly made a statement that they were ready to play. There is hardly ever an underdog when the Seminoles and Hurricanes get together, in any sport. The Seminoles made it known that they were not playing around when they took the first game and the eventual series 2-1.

The Seminoles showed a strong offensive performance by putting up 15 runs on 17 hits for the series. A Mike Compton pitching performance perhaps was the highlight for the Noles as he went eight innings and allowed two earned runs.

With the win against the Hurricanes the Noles jumped to the eleventh ranked team in the nation and the Hurricanes fell to No. 13. Not to mention the Seminoles now have bragging rights until the two teams meet again.

Arkansas stock continues to rise

ArkansasFeaturedAfter a huge SEC series win last weekend against the previously No. 1 ranked Texas A&M Aggies, the Razorbacks continue with their successful ways with another SEC series victory. This time the Razorbacks defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs and in doing so garnished a spot in the College Baseball Daily Top 25.

We have them ranked at No. 23; making the Razorbacks the fifth SEC team currently ranked in the Top 25.

Auburn making run for post season play

Auburn came into the weekend as a bubble team for us at College Baseball Daily and as of today (Wednesday, April 29) is still right outside the Top 25. Although they swept Georgia in an impressive fashion, the real test lies in this upcoming weekends series in Columbia, S.C. against the struggling but always-dangerous South Carolina Gamecocks.

Auburn is currently on a five-game winning streak, during which the Tigers haven’t trailed during any game. The Tigers ERA is currently at 3.31 for the year and offensively is being led by Anfernee Grier who leads the SEC with 19 doubles and 65 hits.

The Fighting Illini stay hot

HartlebParrSIUE1.jpgThe University of Illinois reached a program-record 18 straight wins, they are 13-1 in Big Ten play, and in first place going into this weekends series at Ohio State.

The eighth ranked Illini are currently 37-6-1 and have won 12 straight conference games. The Illini bats are doing their job and currently post a .294 average. On the bump the Illini staff boasts a 2.31 ERA, which is good for best in the Big Ten.

Preseason College Baseball Daily All-American Closer, Tyler Jay, has been an iatrical part of the Fighting Illini’s success. Jay has the third-best ERA in the nation, 0.78 and a 0.63 WHIP, which is the best in the nation.
