CWS-Vandy-vs-Texas-07AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas baseball program on Wednesday announced dates and opponents for its 2015 schedule which features 24 games against teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season. Times and television assignments will be released at a later date.

The Longhorns, who are coming off a third-place finish at the College World Series, will face a challenging 53-game slate. Of the 24 games Texas will play against tournament teams, 20 come on the road, including a four-game non-conference series at Rice (Feb. 13-15) and Stanford (March 5-8).

Additionally, Texas will play 13 games against teams who won Regional championships last year, with three-game a series scheduled vs. conference foes Oklahoma State (April 3-5), TCU (April 24-26) and Texas Tech (May 1-3), to go along with the four-game set vs. the Cardinal.

Texas will play 28 games at UFCU Disch-Falk Field with the home opener set for Tuesday, Feb. 17 vs. UT-San Antonio. That marks the start of a nine-game homestand, with Minnesota coming in for four games (Feb. 20-22), followed by a Tuesday matchup vs. UT-Pan American (Feb. 24) and a three-game set vs. San Diego (Feb. 27-March 1).

Big 12 Conference play opens for the Longhorns when they host West Virginia (March 13-15) and continues at home the following weekend when Kansas State visits (March 20-22).

The second half of the schedule will see Texas play 16 of its last 27 regular season games vs. NCAA Tournament teams, starting with a three-game non-conference series at Nebraska (March 27-29). Other games vs. 2014 postseason teams are at Oklahoma State (April 3-5), vs. Sam Houston State (April 14) and at Kansas (April 17-19).

Texas closes Big 12 play in difficult fashion, facing a pair of 2014 CWS participants in the Horned Frogs before hosting the Red raiders. The Longhorns close the regular season with a conference series at Baylor (May 16-17), with the Big 12 Tournament set for May 20-24 in Tulsa, Okla.

The Longhorns welcome back the core of last season’s team, with seven of eight positional starters returning as well as 10 pitchers that saw action last year. Texas’ 2014 recruiting class has been ranked as the seventh best in the nation by Collegiate Baseball News.
