dannyespinosalbsu.jpeg(Berkeley, CA) The #11 Cal Golden Bears (17-5-1) added another W as they gave the #4 Long Beach State Dirtbags (17-6) their first series loss of the season by a final score of 10-6. The Golden Bears took advantage of their home field advantage and abused the Dirtbags’ pitcher Vance Worley (3-1). Worley allowed a solo home run to Dylan Tonneson in the sixth, as Cal continued to bring the heat with another two runs in the seventh. Worley gave up nine runs (six earned) on 12 hits over six plus innings.

Jason Corder, got the Dirtbags on the board in the third inning with a grand slam to left field, giving LBSU a 4-1 lead. One inning later, defensive miscues by Long Beach State let Cal back into the game, allowing them to tie the game at 4-4.

LBSU’s Jonathan Jones broke the 4-4 tie in the fifth with an RBI single, extending his hit streak to 11 games, before a bases loaded walk by Miller made it 6-4. The bottom half of the sixth, Cal fought back and scored two of their own tying it at 6-6, the second time Cal came from behind to tied the game.

Cal’s reliever Kevin Miller (3-0) came out of the bullpen to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings for the win. Long Beach State has now dropped three-straight.
