(Stanford, CA) – Washington State junior Ross Humes was masterful having only gotten a little wild with a 3-2 pitch and hitting Stanford center fielder Sean Ratliff in the 5th. Humes stayed nearly perfect until facing Ratliff again in the 8th, as the no hitter and shutout bid was broken up by a solo home run to right field also on a 3-2 pitch.

In the mean time the Cougars had built an eight run lead behind two hit performances by Jim Murphy, Jared Prince, Greg Lagreid and Matt Fanelli.

The Cardinal would score two more in the bottom of the 9th, but it was too little too late as the Cougars won 10 to 4. No one from the Cardinal had more than one hit, however catcher Jason Castro also hit a solo home run off Cougar reliever Matt Argyropoulos to lead off the bottom of the 9th.
