The Georgia Southern Eagles set an NCAA Record by hitting 14 homers yesterday against Columbia. Chris Shehan and Griffin Benedict each homered twice for GA Southern who had 12 different players homer in the 26-8 victory over Columbia. The full game recap is available here.

Go Lions! As an alumni I’m proud of Columbia for handling this adversity. They won the first game of the series, the next day lose 26-8, the next day they beat them again. 15 home runs makes you wonder what the hell happened. All though I wasn’t there I know Georgia Southern is notorious for home field advantage, one of my co worker’s nephew played there and we got his report about the situation of that field. Also I believe there was something like 135MPH winds recorded in Georgia this weekend, strong enough winds to displace a stadium roof and wreak havoc on NCAA basketball and apparently baseball as well.

BC hit like 14 homers in a three game set with the Eagles.

Maybe Southern just played a good game. And CC the wind you mention was in Atlanta (200 miles away). In Statesboro there was definitely some wind but not enough to sweep the balls out of the park; it was mostly good hitting. Southern just had a hot bat that day and apparently Columbia had some pretty poor pitching.
