The SEC Tournament starts today in Hoover, Alabama. The town of Hoover really does this thing right—each team stays in the Wynfrey Hotel, which is connected to the Riverchase Galleria Mall. We have easy access to food, a mall and a pool. We also get police escorts to and from each game at Regions Park, the Birmingham Barons AA stadium. Top 100 Countdown: 49. Zach Cone (Georgia)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 49 with junior outfielder Zach Cone from Georgia. The Stone Mountain Georgia native attended Parkview High School where he won four letters. As a senior, he had a .425 batting average, eight home runs 17 stolen bases, a .510 on base percentage while going 6-0 on the mound. He was named Team MVP while picking up First-Team All County honors. He was a third round selection by the LA Angels of Anaheim but decided to become a Bulldog. Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 23 Orleans Firebirds 10

Orleans starting pitcher Martin Viramontes (Loyola-Marymount) had one of the worst pitching performances in recent memory on Monday evening in the Cape Cod Baseball League playoffs against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. He ended up lasting only 0.2 innings giving up nine hits, one walk, and ten runs (all earned) as the Red Sox cruised to the 23-10 victory to take a 1-0 series lead.

Cape Cod League Top Performers for July 3rd

GagnonLBSU Here is your Cape Cod Baseball League Recap for July 3rd. There was a blowout tonight at the Bourne Braves defeated Falmouth 17-3 as Tennessee’s Steven Gruver gave up 10 runs (five earned) and nine hits in only 2.1 innings. The best night at the plate was by Matt Newman from Arizona State as he went 3-4 with a double for the Orleans Firebirds. Andy Burns from Kentucky also had a solid night for Brewster as he went 2-2 with 3 RBI. There was no real outstanding performances on the mound with Andrew Gagnon from Long Beach State going seven innings, giving up five hits, and one run while striking out 8 as his Brewster Whitecaps defeated Orleans 6-2.
