CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball head coach Scoot Googins has announced the addition of Nick Otte to the XU coaching staff. He will serve primarily as the pitching coach for the Musketeers after serving three years as an assistant at Miami (Ohio).
Houston Regional host Rice and Xavier met in the afternoon game, playing for a spot in the regional final. The Owls cruised to a 12-5 victory over the Muskateers, setting up a re-match of Saturday night’s Kansas State-Rice matchup in the finals. Here is your day 3 recap for the Houston Regional.

HOUSTON — The Rice baseball team collected 15 hits, including eight for extra bases, and sailed behind a complete game pitching performance from junior right-hander Jared Rogers for a 12-5 win over visiting Xavier in the early game of the NCAA Houston Regional Sunday afternoon at Reckling Park. HOUSTON – The third-seeded Xavier baseball team captured the program’s first NCAA Tournament win Saturday afternoon, eliminating No. 4 Sam Houston State, 9-6, at Reckling Park in the Houston Regional hosted by Rice University. Junior Neil Lindgren’s two-run homer in the seventh scored the winning run for XU and senior shortstop Jordan Conley closed out the game on the mound for the Musketeers. Continue reading

HOUSTON, Texas – Justin Bloxom went 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs as 14th-ranked Kansas State cruised to a 16-8 win over Xavier in its first-ever NCAA Regional baseball game Friday afternoon at Reckling Park.
The Wildcats (42-16-1) belted 17 hits against the Musketeers (38-20) as Bloxom, Jordan Cruz (3-for-4), Carter Jurica (2-for-4) and Jason King (2-for-3) led the K-State offense in the opening game of the Houston Regional at Rice University. Continue reading
The Rice Owls will host the Houston Regional at Reckling Park after finishing in second place in the Conference USA regular season and winning the Conference USA Tournament title. Kansas State, the two seed, meets Xavier, the three seed, at 2 p.m. CT on Friday. Following that game, host Rice will take the field against Sam Houston State, the four seed. The two teams split during their two regular season meetings, with the home team winning both affairs.
The first elimination game is slated for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday with the winner’s bracket championship to follow at 7 p.m. CT. The loser’s bracket championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, and the first championship game is a 7 p.m. CT start time that same evening. The first article comes from Baseball America who looks at the movers and shakers who have changed their draft stock in a positive or negative way through the first couple of weeks of the season. The Tufts Daily looks at the 2009 Tufts baseball team who is looking to win the NESCAC but have Trinity College (CT) blocking their way to the championship. The Sun in Hamburg NY has a profile on University at Buffalo head coach Charlie Karstedt who is starting to turn around the program in the competitive MAC. The official Xavier athletic site has a profile on Zac Richard whose intimidating presence at the plate and on the mound. The next link of the day comes from Division 3 school Lynchburg College where Jeff Taylor broke the school record for stolen bases in only his second season. CINCINNATI – Xavier head coach Scott Googins has announced the 2009 Xavier baseball schedule, which features four tournaments: the North Carolina State Tournament (Feb. 20-21), the Bethune-Cookman University Spring Break Challenge (Mar. 6-7), the Spartan Classic (Mar. 14-15) and the Joe Nuxall Classic (Apr. 14-15). The Musketeers are looking to have another strong year and reclaim the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championship.

Seth Dawes (Chillicothe, Ohio – Chillicothe High School), Vinny Nittoli (Gibsonia, Pa. – Pine-Richland High School), Patrick Paligraf (Fishers, Ind. – Cathedral High School), Jonathan Richard (Versailles, Ohio – Versailles High School) and Seth Willoughby (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Watterson High School) will be joining the team in the fall of 2009 and will look to make an immediate impact on the squad.
