Xavier releases 2013 Schedule

CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball head coach Scott Googins has announced the upcoming 2013 schedule for the Musketeers. There are 57 games on the schedule, including 24 Atlantic 10 games.
Xavier opens the season on the road at College of Charleston with a three-game series from Feb. 15-17. The Musketeers will play a total 10 road games before opening its home portion of the schedule on March 5 against Miami (Ohio). Read the rest of this entry »

Dan Hayden added to Xavier Coaching Staff

CINCINNATI — Former Musketeer standout catcher Dan Hayden has been named the new assistant coach for the Xavier baseball team. Hayden, a 2008 graduate of Xavier University, was captain of the 2008 Atlantic 10 regular season champion Musketeers.
“I am very excited to have Danny (Hayden) on our staff,” said Xavier head coach Scott Googins. “He was a terrific player and he will bring a wealth of experience to our staff. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Atlantic 10
The Charlotte 49ers dominated the Atlantic 10 conference in 2010 by winning the regular season title with a 20-7 conference record. Xavier finished two games back with a 18-9 record while Rhode Island finished in third place at 17-10. St. Louis and Fordham tied for fourth place with 15-12 records. George Washington and LaSalle tied for sixth with 14-13 records. Umass and St. Joe’s tied for eighth place at 13-14 while Dayton finished in tenth place at 12-15. Charlotte Tabbed To Repeat As A-10 Champion

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After capturing a share of its third regular season title in the past four years, Charlotte has been selected to win the 2010 Atlantic 10 baseball title in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches. Xavier, the 2009 A-10 Tournament Champion, was picked second, while Dayton, the 2009 Conference regular season champion, rounds out the top three.
Charlotte looks to repeat as Atlantic 10 regular season champions for the second time since joining the league during the 2006 campaign. The 49ers last took back-to-back league titles in 2007 and 2008. Charlotte has won three titles in the last five seasons as a member of the league, capturing 96 conference victories — 10 more than the next highest team total during that span. Veteran head coach Loren Hibbs returns 21 letterwinners, including six position starters and 11 pitchers, from a team that went 39-17 overall last season. On the mound, Charlotte also returns all three weekend starters from a year ago, with a combined 16-8 season record, along with redshirt senior relief pitcher Bryan Hamilton, who recently garnered Preseason All-America status.

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Brett Eibner had two hits and scored the eventual game-winning run, while the Razorback pitchers totaled 11 strikeouts Tuesday night as the No. 16 University of Arkansas baseball team held off McNeese State, 3-2, at Cowboy Diamond in Lake Charles, La. TJ Forrest picked up the win in a relief appearance and Jeremy Heatley earned his first career save. The Cowboys had the game-winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth but Blake Ellender grounded into the game-ending double play to send Arkansas (14-5) to victory.
"It was a well-played game," head coach Dave Van Horn said. "They were one big hit away from beating us and we were one big hit from taking a three- or four-run lead. We took advantage of the few hits we got. Both teams played solid defense and made a couple of nice plays."
