Wisconsin-Milwaukee releases 2014 Schedule

ScottDoffekMilwaukee_thumb.jpgMILWAUKEE – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team will open the upcoming season with trips heading west to play CSU Bakersfield and south to compete at the Snowbird Classic in Florida, head coach Scott Doffek announced today when he released the 2014 schedule. In addition, the defending regular-season champion Panthers will host the Horizon League Tournament for the first time in program history at Kapco Park at the end of May. Continue reading

Wichita, Kan. (NCBWA) — Forty-five players have been named to the initial watch list for the seventh annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, as announced by the association Tuesday.

2011 CBD Season Preview: Horizon League

Wright State won the 2010 Horizon League Regular Season title with a 17-6 overall record. Milwaukee finished in the runners-up position a game back with a 17-8 record while Illinois-Chicago finished third with a 15-9 record. Valparaiso came in fourth at 9-10 and Butler finished 11-13 for a fifth place finish. Youngstown State came in sixth with a 9-17 record and Cleveland State rounded out the conference with a 5-20 mark. Continue reading

BaseballMILWAUKEE – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team will open the upcoming season on the road against the University of Tennessee, head coach Scott Doffek announced today when he released the 2011 schedule.

“We have put together a very challenging schedule,” Doffek said. “I feel like it is vitally important to challenge our guys early in the year in preparation for league play, as well as for an NCAA Regional. Any chance you get to test yourself at a high level is an opportunity to improve and I think we have done just that with this schedule.”

TEMPE, Ariz. – Zack MacPhee had four hits and Seth Blair threw seven strong innings as the No. 1 Arizona State University baseball team defeated Hawai’i 12-1 in Tempe Regional play on Saturday. A second consecutive sellout crowd saw the Sun Devils improve to 49-8 on the season with the win.

MacPhee went 4-for-5 and hit one of ASU’s four home runs on the night. Kole Calhoun, Deven Marrero and Raoul Torrez also hit home runs in the game, while MacPhee, Marrero and Johnny Ruettiger all had three RBI each.Riccio Torrez had three hits, and Ruettiger, Marrero and Austin Barnes added two hits apiece.

TEMPE, Ariz. – Merrill Kelly threw eight strong innings to lead the No. 1 Arizona State University baseball team to a 6-2 win over UW-Milwaukee in their first game of the Tempe Regional on Friday. A sellout crowd of 4,371 saw the Sun Devils improve to 48-8 on the season and advance to a winner’s bracket game with Hawai’i on Saturday.

Kelly settled down after a tough first inning, allowing only three hits and two runs (one earned) while matching his season high with eight strikeouts. He got the win to improve to 10-2, as he joins Seth Blair and Jake Borup to give ASU three double-digit game winners on the season. Mitchell Lambson pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two, to finish off the victory.
