2013 Big South Preseason Conference Poll

(www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty’s and Coastal Carolina’s baseball programs have been chosen as the favorites in the Big South Conference’s annual preseason poll for the 2013 season in a vote of the League’s Head Coaches, the League announced today. In addition, the coaches voted Campbell’s Michael Felton and Jeff Kemp of Radford the Conference’s Preseason Co-Players of the Year, while Aaron Burke of Coastal Carolina was named the Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year. CBD Quick Hits for Feb. 17th

The first day of College Baseball this season saw a couple of major upsets with some great pitching performances.

One of the biggest upsets of the day was between two ACC teams with Boston College beating Virginia 5-3 behind sophomore Eric Stevens who pitched six innings giving up three runs on seven hits. ACC Recap for Feb. 17th

Here is your ACC Recap for February 17th.

Game 1: #3 North Carolina 10 Xavier 2

Carolina took a commanding four-run lead after the first inning in game one and never looked back en route to a 10-2 season-opening victory over Xavier.

Tommy Coyle opened the year as he finished 2011 by reaching base safely for the 30th consecutive game with a single to left field in the first. Colin Moran followed with a single of his own before Cody Stubbs was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jacob Stallings. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Preseason Big South Coaches Poll Released

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the fifth consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, the coaches voted Presbyterian sophomore catcher/first baseman Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Josh Conway (Smithsburg, Md.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Will Roberts (Jr., Richmond, Va.) followed up his perfect-game outing with seven innings of shutout pitching as he led the top-ranked Virginia baseball team to a 2-0 win over Radford Tuesday evening on Throwback Night at Davenport Field. Foley’s Quick Hits for March 23rd

Here are some my thoughts from the games played on March 23rd.

The Stetson Hatters picked up a crucial non-conference victory on Wednesday over the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee. The offense was led by Ben Carhart who hit a two run homer in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game at four to cause extra innings. Ryan Lashley drove home the eventual winning run in the 11th inning by doubling home Mark Jones. Stetson’s Robbie Powell was excellent in relief pitching the final 3.2 giving up five hits and only one unearned run while striking out five batters.  Read the rest of this entry »

(www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the fourth consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office.  In addition, the coaches voted Chanticleers’ redshirt-junior second baseman Tommy La Stella (Closter, N.J.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Anthony Meo (Cranston, R.I.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

2011 CBD Season Preview: Big South

The Big South was dominated last year by the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers as they went a perfect 25-0 on their way to the conference regular season title. The Liberty Flames came in second with a 19-8 conference mark. Radford finished in third place with a 15-11 record in the conference only a ½ game ahead of High Point for third place. VMI and Winthrop tied for fifth place with a 13-14 record while Gardner-Webb and UNC-Asheville tied for seventh with a 10-17 mark. Presbyterian College finished in ninth place with a 7-20 record while Charleston Southern rounded out of the conference with a 6-20 record. Read the rest of this entry »

Ball State adds Jeremy Plexico to Coaching Staff

PlexicoPhoto MUNCIE, Ind. – First-year Ball State baseball head coach Alex Marconi announced the hiring of Jeremy Plexico as assistant coach/pitching coach for the Cardinals Tuesday afternoon. Plexico joins assistant coach Pete Milas and volunteer assistant coach Eric Van Matre on the staff for the 2011 season.

“I am very excited to have Jeremy join our coaching staff,” Marconi said. “With his playing background both in college and professionally, he has acquired the skill set to be instrumental in our pitchers’ development. He comes highly recommended from many well respected coaches in college baseball, both as a coach and as a person. I am excited to see the development of our pitching staff under his guidance.”
