George Mason 5 Towson 4

Towson, Md. – The George Mason baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon when the Patriots scored five runs in the first three innings and then held off Towson over the final six as Mason beat the Tigers, 5-4.

Mason scored in the first when Chris Henderson and Justin Bour hit two-out singles and Scott Krieger brought home Henderson with a single to left. Towson tied the game in the bottom of the inning behind a walk and a double. Mason took the lead for good in the second behind the game’s lone error. Continue reading

William and Mary 9 Delaware 4

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Paul Juliano hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to help William and Mary earn a 9-4 victory against Delaware on a cold and rainy afternoon at Plumeri Park on Sunday. With the triumph, W&M claimed the series against UD and improves its record to 18-10 overall and 9-6 in conference play.

In addition to the grand slam, Juliano went 2-for-2 with five RBI. The Northfield, N.J., native also drew three walks as he reached base in all five of his trips to the plate. Senior Greg Maliniak also hit a home run, while classmate Tim Park went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Junior Jeff Jones came up big with a 2-for-4 effort and scored twice. Continue reading

James Madison 6 Hofstra 2

Hempstead, NY- Justin Wood pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits and striking out six to lead James Madison past Hofstra in game two of a Colonial Athletic Association series Saturday afternoon. Trevor Knight had two RBI for the Dukes while Matt Prokopowicz contributed a single and a run scored for the Pride. Hofstra falls to 8-18 (0-11 CAA) while James Madison improves to (18-7, 11-3 CAA). Michael Kohn broke a ninth inning tie with an RBI double and Brandon Sizemore homered and collected four hits lifting the College of Charleston to an 8-6 win at Davidson and a sweep of its three-game Southern Conference baseball series at Wilson Field on Sunday. Continue reading

CBB and StatStud.com Players of the Week for March 10th

The College Baseball Blog and StatStud.com have teamed up this season to bring a weekly award for the top players in the last week. We will select one pitcher and hitter every week throughout the regular season. Shooter Hunt of Tulane is our choice for Pitcher of the Week after a great performance against UC-Irvine. Mike Sheridan had a strong week as he led the William and Mary Tribe to a 4-1 record with the loss coming to North Carolina. Continue reading

CSTV Friday Update

CSTV writer Eric Sorensen continues his series of interviews with the CAA and Big West Conferences. He lists VCU, Old Dominion, and UNC-Wilmington as the favorites. Five Cavaliers Earn VaSID Post-Season Honors

Five Cavaliers Named to 2007 VaSID All-State Baseball Team

Five Virginia baseball players have earned 2007 University Division All-State honors, as selected by the Virginia College Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Brian O’Connor was selected as Coach of the Year, Jacob Thompson (after an 11-0 season earning him a slot as a finalist for the Roger Clemens Award, with the winner to be announced July 11) was chosen as Pitcher of the Year, and shortstop Greg Miclat, OF and Chicago Cubs draftee Brandon Guyer and pitcher and Oakland Athletics first round sandwich pick LHP Sean Doolittle (pictured at left) garnering first-team all-state honors. Doolittle also earned second-team honors at 1B, and was joined on the second team by 2B David Adams.

Brandon Guyer went 3-4 with four RBIs, four runs scored, and a grand slam to lead the Cavaliers to a 17-6 thumping of George Mason. David Adams and John Scaglione were the other Cavs with three hits on the day.

The Clemson Tigers without head coach Jack Leggett pounded out 21 hits with twelve different players picking up at least one hit to pound Gardner-Webb 14-2. Ben Paulsen went 5-5 with a homer and six RBI to lead the Tiger offense.

Kyle Kreick picked up three hits to lead the Blue Devils to a come from behind 11-7 victory over Campbell.

Eddie Burns struck out ten batters over eight innings while only giving up one earned run to pick up his second consecutive victory. Danny Payne and Michael Fisher each picked up three hits to lead the offensive attack from the Jackets.

Joe Lake drove home Bryan Lescanec to break a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the eighth to lead JMU to the 8-6 victory over Virginia Tech.

The Terps scored nine runs in the fifth inning to coast to a 15-3 victory over William & Mary. Joe Palumbo set the stage in the lead-off role by going 4-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs in the win.

The Hofstra Pride picked up their first win in the CAA with a 9-7 victory over George Mason. Matt Prokopowicz went 2 for 2 in the victory with a homer, three runs scored, and two RBI in the victory.
