Western Kentucky releases 2015 Schedule

WKUBOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU head baseball coach Matt Myers announced the 2015 Hilltopper Baseball schedule on Tuesday morning, a slate featuring seven 2014 NCAA Regional teams, including College World Series Champion Vanderbilt, 25 home games and five Conference USA series against league powers at Nick Denes Field.

The 2015 schedule is highlighted by 13 games against seven programs that advanced to NCAA Regionals in 2014, three of which visit Bowling Green in Kentucky, Old Dominion and Rice. Midweek games against defending national champion Vanderbilt (Feb. 25) and College World Series participant Louisville (April 21) headline a difficult non-conference group of opponents that combined to go 451-325 (.581) in 2014. Seven of WKU’s 13 non-conference foes either advanced to a regional or won their regular-season conference championship in 2014. Continue reading

Western Kentucky releases 2014 Schedule

WKUBOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU head baseball coach Matt Myers announced the 2014 Hilltopper Baseball schedule on Monday morning, a slate that features eight 2013 NCAA Regional participants, two first-time opponents, a home series with Big 10 foe Illinois and 28 games at Nick Denes Field.

The schedule is highlighted by 18 games against eight 2013 NCAA Regional teams that combined to win 364 games and 72 percent of their contests. WKU’s 2014 slate includes home and away games versus 2013 College World Series qualifier Louisville, a mid-week trip to another College World Series participant, Indiana, on April 16 and a Feb. 25 meeting at Vanderbilt, a 2013 Super Regional contestant. 2013 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll and Teams

sunbelt_thumb.jpgNEW ORLEANS – The Florida Atlantic Owls have been tabbed as the preseason favorites to win the 2013 Sun Belt Conference baseball title, the league announced on Monday.

FAU won the SBC regular season title in 2012 behind a 32-22 overall record and a 19-8 record in SBC play. This season, the Owls return six starters from that squad and four starting pitchers, including 2013 All-SBC Preseason selections pitcher Austin Gomber and first baseman Mark Nelson. 2012 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW ORLEANS – The Panthers of FIU and the Trojans of Troy have been tabbed as the preseason favorites to win the 2012 Sun Belt Conference baseball title in a vote of the league’s head coaches.

FIU, which finished second overall in the standings in 2011, returns five starters to an offense that led the SBC in batting average, home runs and runs scored. The Panthers finished last season 20-9-1 in conference play. FIU received four first-place votes from the coaches and finished with 93 points. Continue reading


New Era Begins At Western Kentucky Under Matt Myers

With this week came the official start of the college baseball season, and a chance for me to sit down with Western Kentucky’s new head coach, Matt Myers. This will be Myers’ fifth season with WKU, after spending two years each as assistant coach and associate head coach. When asked about the transition, Myers seemed to have a very good idea of what was needed for the program. “From the baseball standpoint, it’s been a really smooth transition,” said Myers. “How we’re playing? The style of play has changed a little bit, and I think that’s just the type of personality that I am.” Continue reading
