CBD Journal with Western Illinois (May 22nd)
Halfway through the season Coach Villano started sending us video clips and questions to help us understand ourselves and what we were trying to accomplish this season. I will always remember one of the first ones he sent, of a speech by Kirk Cousins of Michigan State. He addressed over and over what a privilege it is to be an athlete and what an honor it is to represent something bigger. I speak for each of my teammates and anyone that competes with Western on their jersey, that it is a privilege to be a Leatherneck. Read the rest of this entry »

Senior Day has now come and gone and we played our last series at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium. It was an exciting moment to see all of the seniors you have grown so close with and be able to share that moment with their friends and families. We had stellar performances from two seniors, Rich Mascheri and Dustin Hunter as both threw complete games, while Rich threw a shutout and Dustin recorded 15 strikeouts. Although this season has not gone as we had planned, there are many great things that will be remembered from this season and three great years with the Purple Army. Read the rest of this entry »

This past weekend against North Dakota State was eventful. They are a solid team with talented players. Going into to the series we were looking to put up a fight after losing the series to Southern Utah. Unfortunately we were unable to come out and do that for the first game. Rich Mascheri had a quality start but we were just overmatched in game one. Like all series, the first game is the one that sets the tone for the games to come. In the second game we had an entirely different mindset. Dustin Hunter always gives us his best performance and we got a good one from him, only allowing three earned runs and striking out nine picking up a complete game. This was his first complete game of the season. Offensively, Kedroski continued to drive the ball well. Read the rest of this entry »

Rich Mascheri got the start on the mound Friday night and threw a strong 7 1/3 innings striking out nine batters on five hits. The hitters put up 8 hits on five runs but fell short and suffered the loss. Nick Smith and I got the start on the bump on Saturday’s game. I was able to go six innings striking out eight batters on seven hits. Alexander Zarate relieved me in the seventh inning and struck out four batters and gave up two unearned runs in three innings. This past weekend we went to St. Louis to take on St. Louis University and Air Force. I’m going to speak for the whole team and say both games were disappointing. Intensity was one thing we lacked during this weekend. We need to keep our intensity up the whole game and not let the opposing team have a chance at winning. Read the rest of this entry »
