Western Carolina releases 2013 Schedule

Cullowhee, N.C. – A 31-game home schedule including hosting Atlantic Coast Conference foes Clemson and Wake Forest, as well as Washington State from the Pac-12 highlight Western Carolina’s 2013 baseball schedule unveiled today by sixth-year head coach Bobby Moranda. The 56-game slate also features road trips to SEC-foes Georgia and Tennessee, with traditional home-and-homes with the Tigers and mountain-rival, UNC Asheville, in addition to the rigorous 30-game conference schedule. Scott Manshack added to Western Carolina’s Coaching Staff

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina head baseball coach Bobby Moranda today announced the addition of Scott Manshack, a former right-handed pitcher at the Univ. of North Carolina, to his coaching staff as a volunteer assistant. 2012 CBD Season Preview: Southern Conference

2011 Season Review:

  • Tournament Champion: Georgia Southern
  • Regular Season Champion: Elon
  • Conference RPI: #15
  • Conference ISR: #16

In 2010 the Southern Conference had a conference record 3 teams (Citadel, CofC and Elon) get in a regional. However, in 2011 only the tournament champion Georgia Southern (36-26 overall and 18-12 SOCON) received a NCAA bid. Regular season champion Elon (36-21 overall and 23-7 SOCON) along with CofC (39-22 overall and 18-12 SOCON), and Samford (37-23 overall and 18-12 SOCON) came up just short of a regional. UNCG who won just 7 conference games in 2010 finished just one game behind Elon in regular season at 22-8 in conference and 34-20 overall. +14 games overall and an amazing +15 in conference. Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina fifth-year head baseball coach Bobby Moranda today finalized and released the 2012 schedule for his squad that opens at home with a three-game series on February 17-19. The 55-game schedule includes seven, three-game weekend home series, as well as home-and-home meetings with perennial regional powers Clemson and Georgia, as well as East Tennessee State and mountain-rival, UNC Asheville. Bruce Johnson added to Western Carolina Coaching Staff

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina head baseball coach Bobby Moranda this week announced the addition of former volunteer coach Bruce Johnson to his full-time coaching staff. Johnson, who spent the past two seasons as the volunteer assistant, served as the head coach of the Wilson Tobs last summer in the collegiate wooden bat Coastal Plain League. GREENVILLE, N.C. – Carolina was down to its final out Wednesday night against No. 29 East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. but staged a dramatic comeback in the top of the ninth inning to take a 5-4 win over the Pirates. Jesse Wierzbicki came through with the clutch hit driving in a pair of runs when he singled to left with two down in the ninth. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Redshirt freshman David Trexler earned his first career victory as No. 7 Florida State rolled past Valdosta State, 10-2 at Dick Howser Stadium.

In a pre-arranged controlled start, Trexler (1-0) tossed three innings of shutout baseball, surrendering only a pair of infield singles. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Nothing is coming easy – or free – for Florida State’s baseball opponents four games into the 2011 season.

The Seminoles improved to 4-0 on the year Tuesday with a 5-3 victory over rival Jacksonville at Dick Howser Stadium, thanks in large part to another outstanding pitching performance.
