Pac-10 Recap Saturday 4/26

After pitching a complete game on Friday, Mike Leake started at 1B in place of an injured Ike Davis on Saturday for ASU. He was fantastic defensively and even better offensively, driving in the winning run with a 3 RBI triple in the 7th. David Cooper had 3 singles for Cal, but no RBI’s. while Dylan Tonneson hit a 3 run home run to tie the game up in the 6th, but had trouble behind the plate as the catcher.

Stanford didn’t need Erik Davis to pitch a complete game as the offense exploded for 24 hits. Toby Gerhart came on as a pinch hitter and went 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI’s, while Jason Castro went 4 for 6 with a triple and 4 RBI’s.

OSU snapped Arizona’s 13 game winning streak. Lonnie Lechelt goes 3 for 4 with a double and a run for OSU, while Tanner Robles picks up the win throwing 7.2 innings, walking 0, striking out 7, while giving up only 2 hits and 2 earned runs. Continue reading

Pac-10 Recap Friday 4/25

ASU takes over sole possession of second place in the Pac-10.  Mike Leake throws a complete game and picks up the win, walks 4, strikes out 6 and allows 11 hits.  Tyson Ross takes the loss allowing 9 runs, 8 earned, walks 5, strikes out 5 in 5.1 innings.

Arizona wins its’ 13 straight game.  Preston Guilmet goes the distance in blanking OSU, walks 1, strikes out 10 and allows only 5 hits.  C.J. Ziegler, Brad Glenn and Jon Gaston homer.  Mike Stutes takes the loss while going the distance, walking 8, striking out 10, giving up 6 hits and 6 earned runs.

Stanford remains in first place in the Pac-10 with the win.  Austin Young goes 7.1 innings for the win, walks 2, strikes out 1 and allows just 3 hits.  Brent Milleville had 3 hits including 2 doubles.  Tommy Milone takes the loss while going the distance, walking 2, striking out 7, giving up 9 hits and 4 earned runs.

Matt Way throws a complete game and picks up the win for WSU, walks 1, strikes out 8, allows 6 hits and 3 earned runs.

Battle of Dog Recaps on Monday

Gonzaga 18 Washington 3

SPOKANE, Wash. (http://www.gozags.com April 14, 2008) Seven Gonzaga University batters recorded multiple hits as the Bulldogs exploded for 18 hits to down visiting University of Washington 15-3 Monday night at Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field in Spokane. Jason Chatwood and Mark Castellitto led the brigade, recording three hits a piece.

Gonzaga (19-16, 2-6 WCC) starter Reedy Berg (2-2) earned the victory as the freshman allowed three runs on six his while striking out eight over 6.0 innings pitched. Reliever Andrew Danner earned his first career save as the rookie pitched 3.0 scoreless innings to end the game. UW (23-11) starter Geoff Brown (2-1) was tagged with the loss, allowin seven runs on eight hits in over 2.1 innings of work. Continue reading

NCBWA NAMES PRO-LINE ATHLETIC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 8, today. NC State senior first baseman/outfielder Ryan Pond was named National Hitter of the Week, while Washington junior left-handed pitcher Nick Haughian was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. Continue reading

Washington versus Oregon State delayed

(Corvallis, OR) – Inclement weather postponed the Pac-10 opener for Washington and Oregon State on Friday evening. The two time defending national champion Beavers and Huskies are now scheduled to start conference play with a double header on Saturday. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1:00 pm (PDT), with the second game getting under way 0:45 after the completion of the first. However, the forecast for today and tonight calls for a 60% chance of rain with the possibility of snow in the mix. More snow is forecast overnight and Sunday shows a 40% chance of rain.

Washington completes sweep of Holy Cross

SEATTLE – The Washington baseball team held Holy Cross scoreless over both ends of a doubleheader Sunday, winning 14-0 and 8-0 to sweep a four-game series at Husky Ballpark.

In the opener, starter Jorden Merry (2-0) combined with two relievers on a three-hit shutout. Merry went six innings, allowing the three hits while striking out six. Josh Scofield threw two innings and Jacob Clem pitched the ninth. Continue reading
