Wagner set to name Villanova Assistant Jim Carone as Head Coach

Wagner University will name Villanova Assistant Coach Jim Carone as head coach College Baseball Daily has learned through multiple sources. Carone replaces Joe Litterio who resigned two weeks ago to take assistant coach position at Rutgers University.

Wagner College head coach Joe Litterio heads to Rutgers as Assistant Coach

Head Coach Joe Litterio is leaving the Wagner program to become an assistant at Rutgers according to a report from SILive.com. Litterio is the all-time wins leader in the history of the Seahawks program winning 240 games and guiding the Seahawks to the 2000 Northeast Conference tourney title and their only NCAA Tournament bid.

I am currently hearing that current Rutgers head coach Fred Hill will likely be turning over the program to Joe Litterio at the end of the year thus the reason for the move.  Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Preseason NEC Coaches Poll

Somerset, NJ – Central Connecticut was the last Northeast Conference baseball team to do it seven seasons ago and Charlie Hickey’s club will attempt to achieve the feat again in 2011. 2010 NEC Preseason Poll

NECRelease Somerset, NJ – Wagner won a plurality of first-place votes to finish atop the 2010 Northeast Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll.  The league office released the results of the annual survey as a prelude to its 24th season on the diamond.

Flying high following the program’s first ever regular season conference crown last spring, the Seahawks received four top nods to finish one spot in front of defending NEC Tournament champion Monmouth and its two first-place votes.

Wagner set to retire Andrew Bailey’s Number

WagnerBaseball Staten Island, NY - On the heels of 2006 Graduate Andrew Bailey’s Rookie of the Year campaign with the Oakland A’s, Wagner College Athletic Director Walt Hameline and head baseball coach Joe Litterio have announced that the school will retire Bailey’s number. Bailey, who played for the Green & White from 2003-2006, will have his Seahawk number 17 retired at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Quinnipiac on Thursday, January 28 at 7:00 pm.

NEC Preseason Favorite Monmouth eyes fourth- ever league crown

Somerset, NJ — Monmouth won five first-place votes to find itself in its familiar position atop the Northeast Conference baseball preseason poll. The Hawks have earned the moniker of NEC preseason favorite in three of the past four years. Central Connecticut State collected two first-place nods to finish second in the vote by the conference’s eight head coaches followed by Wagner which garnered the remaining first-place vote in third. The league office released the annual rankings on Thursday as a prelude to its 23rd season of Division I baseball.
