DALLAS, Texas – Northern Illinois and Dallas Baptists combined for 19 runs and 23 hits Thursday night before the home team prevailed 11-8 at Patriot Field. The Huskies (3-9) held a 7-5 advantage before the Patriots (10-4), who received votes in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, mounted a comeback keyed by a five-run seventh inning. FULLERTON, Calif. – The 21st-ranked University of San Diego baseball team scored four unanswered runs in picking up a 6-2 win over No. 16 Cal State Fullerton Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at Goodwin Field.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 8-7 overall and improve to 6-1 against ranked opponents this season. With the loss, the Titans fall to 8-5, suffered their first home loss of the season and saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. Continue reading

BleedCrimson.net talks with Gary Ward

Our buddy over at BleedCrimson.net talked with Gary Ward and Rocky Ward about Gary being inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame two days ago. Gary is currently the assistant coach with the New Mexico State Aggies with his son Rocky as the head coach. Gary had a successful career with Oklahoma State from 1978-1996 then with the Aggies in 2001 and 2002 before turning the reins over to his son. Gary led Oklahoma State to 16 consecutive conference titles and 17 NCAA Regional appearances, and 10 trips to the CWS. He led the Aggies to the 2002 Sun Belt Championship as he finished with a 1,022-361-1 record which is fourth all-time. You can hear the whole interview by clicking here.

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Hawai’i took a 4-0 lead and never trailed in a 7-3 victory over Northern Illinois Thursday night at Surprise Stadium. The Huskies (0-2), who played a school-record 16-inning game prior to the nightcap, got within a run with a three-run seventh but were unable to take a lead in the contest. Continue reading

New Mexico State set to host New Orleans

The New Mexico State Aggies will host the New Orleans Privateers on Friday in the first game of a three game set. The Aggies are coming off a 22-34 season while going 6-18 in the WAC. New Orleans is coming off a Sun Belt championship which saw them participate in the Wichita State Regional where they went 1-2. The Privateers are led by Johnny Giavotella who has been named to several All-American teams. Continue reading

UC-Irvine set to visit Nevada

The UC-Irvine Anteaters will open the season at the University of Nevada. The Anteaters are coming into the season after going 47-17-1 and qualifying for the CWS after winning the Texas Regional and the Wichita State Super Regional. They will have a new coach in 2008 with Mike Gillespie taking over for Dave Serrano who left for Cal-State Fullerton. Nevada comes into the season coming off a 35-26 campaign while going 15-9 in the WAC which was good enough for second place in the conference.
