VMI named Jonathan Hadra as Head Coach

HadraLEXINGTON, Va. – Jonathan Hadra, a four-year letterman and 2004 graduate of VMI, was named the 20th head coach in VMI baseball history on Thursday, Nov. 13. Hadra had been serving as the acting head coach since Nov. 3, when he was named to that role following the resignation of Marlin Ikenberry, who chose to pursue an opportunity in private business. VMI releases 2015 Schedule

VMIStadium.jpgLEXINGTON, Va. – VMI baseball announced its 2015 schedule for its return season in the Southern Conference on Monday afternoon. The schedule contains 56 total games, including 24 SoCon contests and 30 games in the friendly confines of Gray-Minor Stadium. A first meeting with North Florida, a return date in Charlottesville against defending national runner-up Virginia and a three-game set with The Citadel in Charleston headline the slate. VMI’s Marlin Ikenberry Resigns

VMIPhoto_thumb.jpgLEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Head Baseball Coach Marlin Ikenberry will step aside to pursue an opportunity in private business, according to information released by VMI athletics director Dr. Dave Diles late Monday. The move is effective at the end of November, but a search for Ikenberry’s successor will begin immediately with longtime assistant and current Associate Head Coach Jonathan Hadra serving as acting head coach during that time.

NCBWA Players of the Week (Feb. 25th)

NCBWA LogoMORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending February 23 today. Kentucky junior first baseman A.J. Reed was named National Hitter of the Week, while VMI junior right-handed pitcher Reed Garrett was named National Pitcher of the Week. 2014 Big South Preseason Coaches Poll

(www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty and Coastal Carolina have been chosen as the favorites for the second-straight year in the Big South Conference’s annual preseason baseball poll for the 2014 season in a vote of the League’s Head Coaches, the League announced today. In addition, the coaches voted Charleston Southern’s Bobby Ison the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year, while Ryan Thompson of Campbell was named the Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year. SoCon Adds ETSU, Mercer and VMI

SoConLogoHILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – East Tennessee State University, Mercer University and the Virginia Military Institute have been extended invitations to join the Southern Conference beginning July 1, 2014, SoCon Commissioner John Iamarino announced from the league’s spring meetings Thursday.

VMI names Michael Roberts Assistant Coach

LEXINGTON, Va. – Former VMI catcher Michael Roberts has returned to the Institute, as he was named the new Keydet volunteer assistant coach Monday, August 20. This will be Roberts’ first post-graduate collegiate coaching role, as he replaces Nachion Moore, who recently accepted a full-time job at Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville, Tenn.
