2012 CBD Season Preview: ACC

The story of the year in the ACC was how much more dominant the ACC Coastal Division was with four teams winning 19 or more games on the year. Virginia ended up tying Georgia Tech for the overall conference and Coastal Division titles with identical 22-8 records. North Carolina finished in third place in the division with a 20-10 record while Miami (FL) went 19-10 for fourth place. Virginia Tech started the conference season with one win in their first nine games but ended up going 10-11 the rest of the year to finish the season with an 11-19 record. 2012 ACC Preseason Coaches Poll Released

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina has been selected as the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference baseball preseason favorite in a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.

The Tar Heels were named by seven coaches as this year’s ACC team to beat, while Georgia Tech received four first-place votes and Florida State one. Continue reading


2012 ACC Baseball broadcast package will feature 43 games

GREENSBORO, N.C. – At least 43 games involving Atlantic Coast Conference baseball teams are scheduled to be carried nationally and/or regionally by ESPNU, ESPN2, ESPN3 and RSN (Regional Sports Network) during the 2012 season.

All 12 conference teams are represented on this year’s schedule. In addition, all 13 games of the ACC Championship will be televised live for the fifth straight year. The first four days of the tournament, set for May 23 through May 27 at Greensboro, N.C.’s NewBridge Bank Park, will be carried by RSN. The championship game, scheduled for noon on Sunday, May 27, will be telecast nationally by ESPN2. Continue reading


Virginia Tech’s English Field set for enhancement project

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech’s home to the baseball program – English Field – is in the midst of an almost $2 million enhancement project that started in July with the building of a new batter’s eye and will be completed sometime early next year before the Hokies open their 2012 home schedule. Virginia Tech baseball continues its “19 Ways”

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech baseball will continue its “19 Ways” initiative, which was a challenge for the baseball team to find 19 ways to make a difference. The program, which was introduced last year by head coach Pete Hughes and who wears No. 19 for the Hokies, is a chance for the players to get involved and give back to the community. Who has the Worst Uniforms in College Baseball?

Unless you live in a cave or under a rock, you saw the terrible Maryland Terrapins football uniforms that they featured last night on ESPN during their showdown with the Miami Hurricanes. Here are some of the worst uniforms in the history of College Baseball that we were able to come across. This includes some current day uniforms from Virginia Tech’s multiple crazy uniforms to Florida State playing with banana yellow uniforms (yes, pants too) during the late 80’s and early 90’s.

There are rumors that the Texas Longhorns had a full orange uniform in the 70’s or 80’s but we have not been able to confirm or deny the existence of such a uniform.

College Baseball Daily kicks off our annual look back at how successful teams were during the 2011 season today as we look at the ACC schools. The conference sent two teams to the College World Series in North Carolina and Virginia. The Florida State Seminoles joined the Tar Heels and Cavaliers in the Super Regionals while Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami (FL) and NC State all making the NCAA Regionals. 2011 All-ACC Baseball Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson junior shortstop Brad Miller and Virginia junior pitcher Danny Hultzen head up the 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

Miller was selected the ACC Player of the Year in a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches, while Hultzen was named the ACC Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season. Continue reading
