Gainesville, FL- Junior Josh Adams (Jacksonville, Fla.) powered No. 7 Florida to a 6-2 victory over USF in front of 3,309 fans at McKethan Stadium in the season opener for both teams on Friday. The two-time All-SEC second baseman was a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, a pair of home runs and a double. In his collegiate debut, freshman Austin Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla.) went 2-for-4 and blasted a two-run homer on the first swing of his Gator career. Making his return to the lineup after missing the 2009 campaign, redshirt sophomore right-hander Tommy Toledo (Tampa, Fla.) scattered three hits, registered four strikeouts and allowed an unearned run in 3.1 innings.

The College Baseball Blog continues our series of conference previews today with the Big East Conference. Louisville won the conference regular season and postseason titles in 2009 with a 47-18 overall record while going 19-7 in Big East play. The Cardinals were the only team selected to play in the 2009 NCAA Tourney out of the Big East where they won the Louisville Regional before losing to Cal-State Fullerton. Strength and Conditioning coach Stephen King of Villanova University recently wrote a fantastic article for the magazine Training & Conditioning. He details the workouts that Szczur does during the football and baseball seasons as he is a member of both squads. Szczur was outstanding this season on the football field leading the Villanova Wildcats to the FCS Championship by having over 2200 all purpose yards in 15 games. He led the baseball program last season with a .346 average in 48 games.

Villanova signs four for 2010-2011 season
VILLANOVA, Pa. – During the recent early signing period which ended on November 18, head coach Joe Godri signed four scholastic players to National Letters of Intent. The group of four recruits includes two pitchers and two position players. All four players are expected to enroll at Villanova in the fall of 2010.
"We were able to address all of our immediate needs with this signing class," Godri said. "The four players we signed during the early period are good students academically and outstanding athletes who have experience playing for some of the nation’s top club teams."

VILLANOVA, Pa.–The spring schedule for the 2010 season has been finalized and was released today, as Villanova will begin its 56-game regular season schedule on Friday, February 19. The team’s schedule includes 29 games against non-conference opponents in addition to the 27-game BIG EAST slate.
The highlight of the non-conference schedule is the Wildcats first appearance in the Big Ten/BIG EAST Baseball Challenge in the Tampa area in late February. Villanova will face 2009 Big Ten champion Indiana in the second of three games at the tournament, while also taking on Purdue and Iowa.

Kendall Rogers of Rivals continues his series of conference previews heading into fall ball today with the Big East Conference. He believes that the conference needs to take a massive step forward after the top three teams in St. John’s, Louisville, and Notre Dame in competing for a CWS title. Of course, the Big East has a major disadvantage as many of the schools in the conference have substandard facilities and poor weather which affects early season workouts.

Doubleheaders at Dunedin Stadium and Bright House Field highlight a slate that features 30 games over three days, Feb. 26‐28, 2010, at current and former big league facilities in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Fla., area.
