Kallunki, Rhymes, Zunino Tabbed as Finalists for 2012 Dick Howser Trophy

DALLAS – Three first team All-Americans, including two standouts who have led their respective teams to this week’s NCAA Super Regionals, have been named as finalists for the 2012 Dick Howser Trophy presented by Easton Foundations. Balloting was conducted by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in conjunction with the College Baseball Foundation, the Dick Howser Trophy committee and the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. NCBWA Names National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 8, today. Utah Valley senior first baseman Goose Kallunki was named National Hitter of the Week, while Oklahoma State junior left-hander Andrew Heaney was named National Pitcher of the Week. Carlos Lopez tries to avoid a tag.FULLERTON, Calif. — Maybe Cal State Fullerton should play all of its games on Sunday? For the third Sunday in a row, the Titans’ offense had double-digit hits and its best showing of the weekend.

The Titans (8-3) won their seventh straight game, finishing off the weekend sweep of Utah Valley State (2-8) with an 11-3 win Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field.

Pac-10 Weekend Recap (Feb. 19-21)

Mooneyham It was one heck of a weekend for the Pac-10. Coming off of a disastrous 2009 campaign in which only three teams qualified for a Regional and only one made it past the first weekend, the conference came out in a complete 180 in the 2010 season’s opening weekend. As a whole, the Pac-10 went 9-0 on Friday, 10-2 on Saturday and then 6-2 on Sunday for a weekend record of 25-4 with the opponent’s including Rice, Fullerton, Cal Poly, Long Beach St. and Hawaii. After three days of the 2010 season, no team has more than one loss.

He looked at every start from around the nation and figured out which schools treat their pitchers the best in terms of pitch counts while other schools abuse their pitchers with insane pitch counts. WAC Weekend Recap for May 16th-18th

Fresno State and Sacramento State split their weekend series over the weekend. The Hornets took the opening game on Friday night 9-8 on a walk-off grand slam by freshman Brent Hottman. On Saturday the two teams split the doubleheader with the Hornets picking up game one 4-0 and Fresno State taking game two 6-4. Bryan Smith struck out 11 and tossed his first career complete game as Utah Valley shocked No. 9 Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon, 11-3. Smith allowed three runs on eight hits while throwing 153 pitches in leading the Wolverines to the upset win.
