Texas State 20 Penn State 6

Texas State scored in all but two innings, rapped out 15 hits and capitalized on as many walks issued by Penn State’s pitching staff, all leading to a 20-6 rout of the Nittany Lions Friday night at Bobcat Field.

Texas State (6-6) is set to take the series with tonight’s win, while Penn State (4-6) falls in their fifth-straight game with the loss.

Gougler was the only Lion with multiple hits, putting up a line of two-for-three with two runs scored and a walk.

Southeastern Louisiana 4, Texas Southern 1

HAMMOND, La. – The 2010 Southeastern Louisiana baseball team now has the school’s all-time best winning streak all to itself. After tying the mark Friday, the Lions broke it Saturday, taking their 11th straight game to improve to 11-0 on the year. The 4-1 victory over Texas Southern also clinched the series for Southeastern.

Texas State 5, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After trailing the majority of the game, Texas State spurred a four-run eighth-inning rally and earned its first win of the Southland Conference season with a 5-3 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday night at Bobcat Field.

Texas State improves to 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in league play, while A&M-Corpus Christi falls to 5-3 and 0-1, respectively.

Mitchell, who struck out a school-record 18 batters, is the first Maverick in the history of the program to carry a no-hitter 8.2 innings.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Jason Mitchell struck out a school and Southland Conference record 18 batters and held a no-hitter through 8.2 innings, but it took UT Arlington 14 innings to capture its first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Missouri State on Friday evening at Clay Gould Ballpark.

LamarPhoto BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar’s Anthony Moore drove a walk-off single off the right field fence in the 17th inning Saturday night to end the longest baseball game in school history and give the Cardinals a 5-4 victory and a doubleheader sweep of Maine. They also won the first game 6-1.

Eleven Southland Teams Usher in 2010 Season on Friday

Choice The 47th season of Southland Conference baseball gets underway Friday when 11 teams hit the diamond. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will be the first league team to play this season when they play host to Prairie View Friday at 2 p.m. There will be five afternoon games and six evening games on the opening day of the 2010 season. UTSA is the only team not to open its season Friday. The Roadrunners throw out their first pitch Saturday at 2 p.m. against Houston Baptist. All 12 Southland teams have games on Saturday, including two – Lamar, UT Arlington – that will play two. There are only 10 games on Sunday.

2010 CBB Season Preview: Southland

2009 marked the first conference championship for the Texas State, while Sam Houston State picked up the SLC Tournament Title and joined the Bobcats in the NCAA Tournament. This season, Texas State is looking for a return to the postseason, while the rest of the conference is taking aim at booking their ticket to a regional by way of the postseason tournament in Corpus Christi. The conference may not be major, but the returning talent definitely is. Led by Team USA OF Michael Choice, the league will feature more than six players who garnered some sort of All-American status last season.

2010 Southland Conference Preseason Polls

TexasStateBaseball FRISCO, Texas - Texas State is favored to win its fourth Southland Conference regular-season baseball championship by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Bobcats received five first-place votes and 114 points in the coaches’ poll and five first-place votes and 112 points in the SID poll. Texas State returns 19 letterwinners, five starters and nine pitchers from a Bobcat squad that won its first regular-season title since 1997 and posted its best record in program history with 41 overall wins and 24 league wins.

UT-San Antonio Announces 2010 Schedule

ShermanCorbett SAN ANTONIO, TX — UTSA head baseball coach Sherman Corbett announced Wednesday his program’s 2010 schedule. Highlighted by six teams that played in the 2009 NCAA Tournament (Baylor, Sam Houston State, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Texas State), a full slate of 33 Southland Conference games and 26 home tilts, the ledger features a total of 52 contests this spring.

“This will be yet another challenging schedule for our program,” said Corbett, who begins his 10th season this spring. “Not only do we play six clubs that played in the postseason last year, but we also have several tough road contests that will prepare us for the 33-game Southland Conference season. I’m looking forward to seeing how this year’s group handles this schedule and performs as the year progresses.”

We continue the list today with number 96 in our countdown with UT-San Antonio infielder Ryan Hutson. He from Round Rock High School in Round Rock Texas where he was a three year letter winner and a two year starter.
