Tallahassee, Fla. – Second-ranked Florida State (32-3) captured its first regular season series victory over intra-state rival and No. 24 Florida (24-13) since 2005 with a 4-2 win Tuesday night. A new Dick Howser Stadium crowd of 6,737 were on hand to see senior Ryan Strauss pick up his second straight win over the Gators this year while throwing his first career complete game.
“Florida State, Florida is enough said,” added head coach Mike Martin on taking the season series from the Gators. “Florida has a great ball club and we were very fortunate to win. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Freshman catcher Yasmani Grandal drove in the game-winning run after junior Dave DiNatale hit a two-run game-tying single in the bottom of the eighth as No. 2 Miami rallied to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 7-6, Wednesday night at Mark Light Field. The CBB continues our series of previews of different conferences throughout the nation. This week we check in on the America East conference which had Binghamton win the Regular Season title and Albany won the conference tournament in a classic 1-0 pitching duel. Albany was put into the Arkansas regional where they lost to Arkansas 9-0 and Creighton 21-11. The conference tournament will be double elimination at the number 1 seed’s home field. The Maryland Terrapins picked up a 11-6 victory over UMBC on Tuesday evening. Maryland used a six run third inning to cruise to the victory. Casey Baron got the win by working two innings and striking out five out of the six outs he recorded. Sean Rae got the loss for UMBC by giving up six runs in his two innings of work. Maryland will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Maryland Eastern-Shore while UMBC will host America East rival Binghamton on Friday for the start of a four game set.
Tim Kearney pitched a perfect scoreless inning in relief of Maryland starter Brett Curll to pick up his first career victory with a 9-0 shutout over UMBC. The Terps were led by Mike Murphy, Steve Braun, and Wink Nolan who each went 2-3 in the victory. UMBC’s leading hitter was Scott Peddicord who went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate. Maryland returns to action on Wednesday when they head to Towson for a non-conference match-up while UMBC is off until Friday when they host Hartford.
Scott Peddicord hit a three run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the UMBC Baseball team to a 9-8 victory over Delaware. Tom Schlein picked up the win for the Retrievers while David Slovak picked up the loss for Delaware.
