2013 America East Preseason Coaches Poll

AmericaEastLogoCAMBRIDGE, Mass.— After a historic run to the College World Series, reigning America East champion and back-to-back regular-season title holder Stony Brook University was picked first in the 2013 America East Preseason Coaches’ poll as determined by a vote by the league’s six head coaches who were not allowed the vote for their own teams. UMBC releases 2013 Schedule

BALTIMORE – The UMBC baseball team and second-year head coach Bob Mumma released its 2013 regular season schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The Retrievers’ 48-game schedule includes 23 games in Baltimore at the Baseball Factory Field to go along with a season-opening trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Coastal Carolina Tournament. UMBC hires Bob Mumma as Head Coach

Bob Mumma has been promoted to head baseball coach at UMBC, Director of Athletics Dr. Charles Brown announced today.

“Bob Mumma bleeds black and gold,” Dr. Brown said. “He was an outstanding student-athlete for the Retrievers, earning All-Conference honors and national recognition as an Academic All-American. After playing professionally in the White Sox organization, he came back to UMBC and has been a dedicated assistant coach. He deserves an opportunity to skipper the Retrievers. 2011 America East Preseason Coaches Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— The Stony Brook Seawolves are the unanimous picks to win the 2011 America East Baseball Championship according to the preseason coaches’ poll and as voted on by all six of the league’s head coaches. After winning their second tournament title in three years in 2010, the Seawolves received all five possible first-place votes as head coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams. LEXINGTON, Va. - The top five hitters in the lineup went 10 for 21 with 10 RBIs as No. 26 VMI defeated No. 1 Virginia, 12-3, in front of a record crowd of 1,463 fans at Gray-Minor Stadium Wednesday night.  The win is VMI’s first-ever over a top-ranked opponent and improves the Keydets to 29-5 on the season.  The Cavaliers fall to 27-8 with the loss, the team’s first mid-week setback in 10 games this season.

MarquisUMD ATLANTA - The third-ranked Georgia Tech baseball team (18-2, 5-1 ACC) scored double digit runs for the fourth straight game, and 12 different players registered a hit in a 19-4 win over Mercer (14-9, 2-1 A-Sun) Wednesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.

"We’ve had contributions from a lot of different guys," head coach Danny Hall said. "I think as a team we’ve swung the bat real well, which is a good sign. We’ve got [Jay] Dantzler down a little bit right now, and Brandon Thomas steps in there and has hit the ball real well for us. So that’s good to see."

2010 Preseason America East Poll

AmericaEastPoll CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— University of Maine is the favorite of the head coaches to capture the 2010 America East Baseball Championship in what would be the Black Bears’ first conference title since 2006. Maine, which finished fifth in 2009, garnered three of a possible five first-place votes and 23 total points. Head coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

Stony Brook University, the 2008 America East Champion, was selected second with two first-place votes and 21 points, and Binghamton University, last year’s regular-season and tournament champion, finished third with the final first-place vote and 19 points. University at Albany (13 points), University of Hartford (9) and UMBC (5) rounded out the six-team poll.
