2013 Preseason Big East Coaches Poll Released

BigEastLogoPROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Louisville Cardinals, who tied for the 2012 BIG EAST regular-season title, have been tabbed as the favorites in 2013 by the league’s 11 head coaches.

The Cardinals, who advanced to the NCAA Championship for the seventh time in 2012, reaching the final of the Tucson Regional, received eight first-place votes and 98 points in the coaches’ preseason poll. St. John’s, with 82 points, edged Notre Dame (81) for second place. Continue reading

CBD Column: Thoughts from UConn Scout Day

On Friday, the Connecticut Huskies returned to J.O. Christian field for the first time since mid-May for the annual UConn Baseball Scout Day. Coming off a 31-27-1 season, which ended in a Big East Tournament loss to USF, the 2013 Huskies will have many young players who are poised to compete for starting jobs. Head Coach Jim Penders, who notched his 300th win in 2012, returns to the helm for his 10th season and will be faced with many questions about how he will integrate the new class of freshman into the mix. ­­ Continue reading

Big East Weekend Preview (March 23rd-25th)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – This weekend marks the opening weekend of BIG EAST baseball conference play, with 18 games scheduled for Friday-Sunday. CBD Quick Hits for Feb. 17th

The first day of College Baseball this season saw a couple of major upsets with some great pitching performances.

One of the biggest upsets of the day was between two ACC teams with Boston College beating Virginia 5-3 behind sophomore Eric Stevens who pitched six innings giving up three runs on seven hits. Leading the Eagles offense was a Spenser Payne three run homer in a four run fourth inning. Continue reading

UConn Announces Plans for New Stadium

STORRS, Conn. (January 31, 2012) – The University of Connecticut Division of Athletics has established “Stadium Enhancement/Construction” funds in the sports of soccer, baseball and softball. The purpose of the funds are to upgrade or build new facilities for those sports.  The projects are all still in the early planning stages and the full scope of these projects have yet to be determined.  The projects will be funded entirely through private donations Continue reading
