STORRS, Conn. – University of Connecticut head baseball coach Jim Penders has announced the team’s 2013 schedule, which will open in Dunedin, Fla. against on February 15 at 4:00 pm. The UConn schedule features 14 games against opponents that played in last season’s NCAA Tournament. Continue reading
Quinnipiac will name former UConn infielder Ryan Fuller as their new assistant coach this week. Fuller played the first two years of his college career at UConn-Avery Point before transferring to the main UConn campus in Storrs, CT for his final two seasons being named All-Big East Second Team as a junior. On Friday, the Connecticut Huskies returned to J.O. Christian field for the first time since mid-May for the annual UConn Baseball Scout Day. Coming off a 31-27-1 season, which ended in a Big East Tournament loss to USF, the 2013 Huskies will have many young players who are poised to compete for starting jobs. Head Coach Jim Penders, who notched his 300th win in 2012, returns to the helm for his 10th season and will be faced with many questions about how he will integrate the new class of freshman into the mix. The first day of College Baseball this season saw a couple of major upsets with some great pitching performances.
One of the biggest upsets of the day was between two ACC teams with Boston College beating Virginia 5-3 behind sophomore Eric Stevens who pitched six innings giving up three runs on seven hits. Leading the Eagles offense was a Spenser Payne three run homer in a four run fourth inning. Continue reading
