West Coast Weekend Preview…Let it Snow?

The Bay Area is scheduled for some nasty weather this weekend, and there’s even snow possibly in the forecast in San Francisco for the first time since the 1970′s.  The USF Dons (0-4) look to turn around its season after a rough opening stretch against UCLA as they play UC Davis in a home/away/home series this weekend.  Weather will probably get in the way Friday with a double dip sometime either Saturday or Sunday.  I spoke with USF Head Coach Nino Giarratano this week about his teams efforts to rebound over the weekend.

2011 Big West Preseason Poll

Irvine, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton is the predominate favorite in the 2011 Big West Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving all nine first-place votes. The Titans have claimed at least a share of eight of the last 12 titles and a conference-best 15 overall. UC Irvine and UC Riverside found themselves knotted in second place with 65 votes apiece. Receiving 50 points to grab the fourth slot is Cal Poly while Long Beach State rounds out the top five with 47 points.

UC-Davis releases 2011 Schedule

DAVIS, Calif. – With a season-opening Causeway Cup series against Sacramento State and games against four teams who advanced to the NCAA Division I Championship, the 2011 baseball schedule has been announced by UC Davis head coach Rex Peters.

UC Davis opens the 2011 campaign with a weekend series against crosstown rival Sacramento State from Feb. 18-20. UC Davis will host the first and third games at Dobbins Baseball Complex, while the middle game will be played at Hornet Field. The Aggies claimed the 2010 edition of the rivalry series after taking two games over the Hornets. Continue reading

Mountain West Conference Recap for Feb. 20th

MountainWestConference COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -New Mexico scored four unanswered runs to rally for a 6-5 upset of No. 1 Texas on Saturday, while No. 11 TCU won a 12-7 slugfest with Sam Houston State. Utah also collected a win in non-conference action, splitting a twinbill with UC Davis (7-1, 1-6).

2010 Big West Preseason Poll

ChristianColonCSF Following a season that once again concluded in Omaha, Neb., at the College World Series, Cal State Fullerton was selected to capture the 2010 Big West Baseball Championship, a title they lost to UC Irvine last season, according to the Big West Conference preseason poll conducted by the league’s nine head coaches. The Titans, who have claimed at least a share of seven of the last 11 titles and a conference-best 14, nabbed seven first-place votes for a total of 79 points and were followed by defending conference championship UC Irvine, who picked up two first-place votes en route to a 71 point total. Rounding out the top three were the Cal Poly Mustangs, sitting third with 60 points.
