The final week of Big West play has 5 games set for action, with all 9 teams active. The Highlanders will travel up to Davis to take on the Aggies. Long Beach State heads over to UC Irvine to take on the Anteaters. Fullerton is back in action and taking on last place Northridge. Pacific travels to Santa Barbara to take on the Gauchos. There are four conference match-ups set for this weekend as the first place Fullerton Titans have their scheduled bye week. The second place Anteaters travel down to the Inland empire to take on the Highlanders of UC Riverside. The UC Davis Aggies will travel back to Davis to take on the visiting UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. The Mustangs will leave the friendly confines of Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo and travel up north to Stockton to take on the Pacific Tigers. The Big West is in full swing with only a few weekends left. All nine teams are in action with four conference match-ups taking the field and another team playing out of conference. Long Beach travels to Fullerton for a tough match-up, UC Davis travels south to Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara hosts the Anteaters of Irvine and Riverside will be in Northridge. The Bay Area is scheduled for some nasty weather this weekend, and there’s even snow possibly in the forecast in San Francisco for the first time since the 1970’s. The USF Dons (0-4) look to turn around its season after a rough opening stretch against UCLA as they play UC Davis in a home/away/home series this weekend. Weather will probably get in the way Friday with a double dip sometime either Saturday or Sunday. I spoke with USF Head Coach Nino Giarratano this week about his teams efforts to rebound over the weekend.

Irvine, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton is the predominate favorite in the 2011 Big West Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving all nine first-place votes. The Titans have claimed at least a share of eight of the last 12 titles and a conference-best 15 overall. UC Irvine and UC Riverside found themselves knotted in second place with 65 votes apiece. Receiving 50 points to grab the fourth slot is Cal Poly while Long Beach State rounds out the top five with 47 points.

DAVIS, Calif. – With a season-opening Causeway Cup series against Sacramento State and games against four teams who advanced to the NCAA Division I Championship, the 2011 baseball schedule has been announced by UC Davis head coach Rex Peters.
UC Davis opens the 2011 campaign with a weekend series against crosstown rival Sacramento State from Feb. 18-20. UC Davis will host the first and third games at Dobbins Baseball Complex, while the middle game will be played at Hornet Field.
