UAB releases 2014 Schedule

UABLogoBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB baseball head coach Brian Shoop announced the squad’s schedule for the upcoming 2014 campaign, which was released on Tuesday. Twenty-one home games to be played at Regions Field, a four-game series at the University of Hawaii, and a 30-game Conference USA slate highlight the 2014 UAB baseball schedule. 2013 Conference USA Preseason Coaches Poll and Teams

ConferenceUSALogoConference USA announced its 2013 preseason baseball awards, as chosen by the league’s nine head coaches. Rice senior infielder Christian Stringer was chosen as the preseason Player of the Year, while Owls junior right-hander Austin Kubitza was named the preseason Pitcher of the Year. Rice was chosen to win the league’s championship. The Owls have won either the regular season or tournament championship in each of its seven years as a member of C-USA. UAB releases 2013 Schedule

UABLogoBIRMINGHAM, Ala. —- The UAB baseball team recently announced its 2013 schedule as the Blazers are coming off a historic season when they reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1991.

Carolina took a commanding four-run lead after the first inning in game one and never looked back en route to a 10-2 season-opening victory over Xavier.

Tommy Coyle opened the year as he finished 2011 by reaching base safely for the 30th consecutive game with a single to left field in the first. Colin Moran followed with a single of his own before Cody Stubbs was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jacob Stallings. 2012 Conference USA Preseason Coaches Poll Released

Conference USA announced its 2012 preseason baseball awards, as chosen by the league’s nine head coaches. UCF junior utility player D.J. Hicks was chosen as the preseason Player of the Year, while Rice sophomore left-hander Austin Kubitza was named the preseason Pitcher of the Year. Rice was chosen to win the league’s championship. 2011 CBD Conference USA Awards

2011 CUSA Player of the Year – Chad Zurcher, Memphis

In a year when offensive numbers across the country plummeted—and the name “BBCOR” became commonly uttered next to any manner of expletive—Memphis’ Chad Zurcher didn’t seem to get the memo. The junior from Knoxville finished the season with an NCAA-best .443 batting average, and his .455 average to finish the regular season was eight points higher than the CUSA single-season record set by UCF’s Chris Duffy in 2010. Zurcher was a large reason that Memphis finished the season with the best team batting average in the conference, as he led the league in multi-hit games (28). As well, Zurcher displayed an uncanny knack for getting on base as his 33 walks to just 17 strikeouts added up to a league-best (and nation-best) .547 on-base-percentage. Tigers hurler Ryan Holland struck out a career-high 11 batters and right fielder Robby Graham broke a 4-4 deadlock with an RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth as fifth-seeded Memphis defeated No. 8 seed UAB, 5-4, to open day three of the 2011 Conference USA Baseball Championship sponsored by Trustmark Friday morning at Trustmark Park. For 117 pitches, UAB hurler Dillon Napoleon was nearly flawless. On his 118th offering to the plate, however, UCF first baseman Jonathan Griffin sent the recently appointed Conference USA Newcomer of the Year to the bench and turned a 4-3 deficit into a two-run lead as the Knights defeated the Blazers 6-4 in day two of the 2011 C-USA Baseball Championship sponsored by Trustmark Thursday morning at Trustmark Park.
