Troy’s Bobby Pierce set to retire at end of 2015; Mark Smartt named Succesor

TroyBaseballTROY, Ala. – Troy University baseball head coach Bobby Pierce announced at a press conference Wednesday that he will retire following the 2015 season; his 13th season as the coach of the Trojans. Pierce, who is 15 wins shy of surpassing Chase Riddle for the most in school history, informed his team at a meeting Tuesday night.

“Troy University, the Troy community and the entire Trojan nation have been nothing short of phenomenal to me, my family and our program over the years,” Pierce said. “I have put everything I have into playing and coaching for 51 years of my life. PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Nathan Kirby (So., Midlothian, Va.) threw a no-hitter in the No. 1-ranked Virginia baseball team’s 4-0 victory at Pittsburgh Friday evening at Charles Cost Field. Kirby struck out 18 batters, one off the school and ACC single-game record, in UVa’s first no-hitter since 2011. Troy releases 2014 Schedule

TroyBaseballThe Troy baseball team will play 31 games at Riddle-Pace Field, including 12 of the first 15 games of the season, as head coach Bobby Pierce announced the schedule for the 2014 season on Tuesday.

Highlighted on the Trojans home slate are visits from Samford, Jacksonville State, ULM, Louisiana-Lafayette, Western Kentucky, UAB and South Alabama. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Brandon Brown drew a bases-loaded, walk-off walk in the ninth to cap a four-run inning as Troy defeated Alabama 9-8 in an elimination game at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on Sunday.

No. 26 Troy (42-19) moves on to face No.9 Florida State on Sunday at 4 p.m. (CDT) in the Tallahassee Regional Championship at Dick Howser Stadium.
