EDMONTON, Alberta – Jeff Malm (INF; Las Vegas, Nev.) slapped a two-run, bases-loaded single to ignite a five-run fifth inning and Ryan Weber (RHP; St. Petersburg, Fla.) fashioned a five-hit complete-game performance to lead the USA Baseball 18U National Team to a 7-0 quarterfinal win against Puerto Rico today at the International Baseball Federation’s AAA World Junior Championships. The tournament, featuring the world’s top 18-and-under players from 12 countries, continues Aug. 2 with medal round semifinals. Medal games are set for Aug. 3.

EDMONTON, Alberta – Nolan Fontana (INF; Winter Garden, Fla.) lined a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning to plate the tying and go-ahead runs and Jake Barrett (RHP; Mesa, Ariz.) protected a one-run lead over the final three innings as the USA Baseball 18U National Team rallied for a 4-3 victory against defending world champ Korea in Day 6 of pool play at the International Baseball Federation’s AAA World Junior Championships. OKOTOKS, Alberta. – Colton Cain (LHP; Waxahatchie, Texas) and Wes Hatton (RHP; Norco, Calif.) combined on a two-hitter and a solo home run from Max Stassi (C; Yuba City, Calif.) highlighted a 10-hitt attack as the USA Baseball 18U National Team blanked Chinese Taipei 6-0 today in exhibition action in the first day of the International Super Series at Seaman Stadium. PHOENIX, Ariz. – A seven-run second inning helped the USA Baseball 18U National Team overcome an early four-run deficit and the squad rolled to an 11-8 seven-inning victory July 19 against a group of local junior college all-stars in an exhibition contest played at Municipal Stadium, spring training home of the Oakland Athletics.
