Team USA loses 7-1 to Budo University

(CHIBA, JAPAN) – Team USA (11-1) committed three errors and left eight runners on base in a 7-1 exhibition loss to Budo University, Friday, in Chiba, Japan. The loss was the first by the U.S. this summer and it snapped a 35-game winning streak for the National Team dating back to last season.

Tyler Holt (Florida State) reached second base on an error by the left fielder to begin the game and later scored Team USA’s lone run on an RBI groundout by Blake Forsythe (Tennessee) in the bottom of the first inning. Continue reading

Team USA No-Hits Guatemala En Route to 10-0 Shutout

USA Baseball Announces 2009 National Team Roster

(CARY, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced Wednesday night the 22 members of its 2009 National Team (Collegiate). The roster is headlined by shortstop and 2008 National Team member Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton; Capey, Puerto Rico), and consists of five outfielders, six infielders, 10 pitchers, and one utility player. Two additional players will stay with the team to serve as alternates. Continue reading

National Team Trials: Blue Team Wins Fifth Consecutive Game, Drops Red 8-5

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston sophomore third baseman Cole Rakar and Elon junior catcher Mike Melillo have been named the Southern Conference’s Baseball Co-Players of the Week for all games from March 23-29. Citadel’s Fred Jordan wins 600th game

The Citadel’s Fred Jordan picked up his 600th victory on Sunday in a 4-1 victory over the Air Force Falcons. Jordan is currently in his 18th season in charge of the Bulldog program and is the fastest coach in Southern Conference history to reach the 600 win plateau. SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference baseball coaches and the voting members of the Southern Conference Sports Media Association have each selected Elon as the preseason favorite to repeat as champion in 2009. A year ago, the Phoenix became the first team in seven seasons to win both the regular season and tournament titles en route to a 44-18 season and a berth in the NCAA Regionals. Continue reading
